Notes for Newcomers:

If you are new to this thread and enjoy photography then feel free to post your pictures! We run a fresh photography thread each week, starting on the Sunday, and have a guest judge set the theme and pick winners each week. You are welcome to post as many pictures as you wish with a connection to that weeks theme. The runners up will be mentioned in the following weeks thread and the winner gets a mention and their winning photo in the weekly newsletter.

Winners also get an exclusive 'Winners Badge' for their WC profile!

If anyone wants adding to the tagging list, DM me to let me know👍You certainly don't need to be on the list to post in the thread, it just helps people see the weekly post when its put up.

Happy snapping!

Congrats to the runners up, and advanced congrats to the winner! ! Cool photos everyone. 😎

·

Lucky for everyone that I was at my sister's having game night & I just got home (2:30am local time) so I can post this week's theme.

First of all, I want to thank @Deeperblue for choosing me as a guest judge. Truly humbled & honored to be selected.

Also a general forum-wide thank you to all of you for welcoming me and my whimsical time pieces and the horological education I receive here. It means a lot.

Now based on that intro you might think the theme would be 'Thanks', but no. We are gonna lean hard into whimsical this week. The weekly theme is 'fandom'. Show us what else you are fans of besides watches. Your pics should include a watch, but maybe not be the focal point. Bonus points may be achieved by increasing the number of fandoms you can fit into one shot.

Good luck and...

It's like getting 'the call', right? 😆

'Fandom' is a very cool choice!

I'm going to join in this week!

Great theme!

·

Great photos, and a fantastic subject for this week's comp (you'll now see the inner workings of the mind of an obsessive🤯🤪)👍

·

I was made for this theme! When my childhood & watch collecting collide 😁

Things I am a fan of in this one photo alone...

  1. My dog - Even though she smells bad, I still like her

  2. The outdoors - My kids built a make shift tent out of bedsheets and a kid's gymnastics bar. My 10 year-old feels the same way about the outdoors as me - she'd pave over the Grand Canyon and build a mall on top of it, if she could - and yet strangely she's been hanging out in the "tent" happily looking up at the clouds for hours on end. What the h*ll is wrong with her?

  3. Nectarines - They're coming in! When we first bought our house, we had this big dirt side lot. My wife decided that she wanted a garden. I decided that we were going to lay down a bunch of concrete and build a supplemental dwelling unit, and rent it out. We ended up with a garden. These are the most expensive nectarines I'll ever eat in my life

My second love apart from watches is architecture, I love spending time to discover new amazing churches and cities where to admire the beautifull things human can create and achieve. This pic has been taken in little city called Lodi (Lombardy), in a little baroque church.

Although I am new to WATCH collecting, I'm not new to collecting as a hobby. As a kid in the 80s I got hooked on comics. In particular the X-Men and anything mutant related. Thanks for this topic which let me bring the old and new together.

Way cool theme idea @UnholiestJedi !!

My fandom isn’t a traditional one. It is for the Cascadian region I live in. The Pacific Northwest, diving, and hiking 🙃🤿🌊. Not the nerdiest fandom thing, I know, but it is who I am 🤷🏻‍♂️

·

Sorry guys pardon my shots … kinda stuck at the house lol…

Gundam and Big 70’s 80’s big robots …

Also, I’m a def. A new fan of watch modding and building as of late…

I can only imagine as I don't have a Rolex, but being guest judge is something I hoped would occur, so maybe it is?

Fandom may have nerdy/geeky connotations because the word gained popularity in those circles (if it wasn't coined by them), but that's only because some are too insecure for their hobbies or likes to be associated with the cool people in the nerdy/geeky circles.

And FTR, I think I'm counting 5 fandoms here?

·
Image

I’m a big fan of discounts.

Ohhhh if its 5% cheaper, its time to use it!!!!

·

Garage perhaps..? hehehe

Hmm lol

Quick congratulations to the previous runners up, great photos! And thanks for that awesome topic @Fieldwalker !

Quick query: is there any way to automatically add our photos from these threads to our gallery? The gallery only seems to populate from WRUW.

I don’t think so, but you can ask moderators @ WatchCrunch (type that without a space)

·

I'm a big fan of photography. :)

(2020 Seiko SARB017 Alpinist & 2020 Van's x No Comply x Daniel Johnston)

Not the best picture above but it contains much of what I'm a fan of such as sneakers, art, music, documentaries and mental health.

Image

My wife Rebecca and I were fortunate to know and support outsider artist and alternative musician Daniel Johnston (1961-2019) the subject of the documentary "The Devil and Daniel Johnston". The film makers honored our efforts by including my wife and I in the closing credits of the documentary.

Image

When Van's collaborated with No Comply to produce a limited series of Daniel Johnston shoes I was in sneaker heaven! The shoes feature Daniel's distinctive artwork that never fails to make me smile.

Kurt Cobain famously wore Daniel's "Hi, How Are You" t-shirts and many bands including Beck, Death Cab for Cutie and Tom Waits covered Daniel's original songs. He had a pure and child like Forrest Gump innocence and his unique talents led to an almost accidental fame. Daniel often used his talents to thrive and persevere despite being diagnosed with a bipolar disorder.

Image

(Kurt Cobain wearing Daniel Johnston's Hi, How Are You t-shirt)

If you're not familiar with Daniel's unconventional art and music consider giving it a peek though I suggest watching the documentary first.

My wife Rebecca is a leader in the use of music in mental health treatment. In addition to being a published author, researcher, intern advisor and clinician she has collaborated with many others and is regularly cited in books, professional journals and research articles. Most recently Mona Simpson, sister of Steve Jobs, acknowledged Rebecca in the forward to her latest book "Commitment".

Image

(Melissa Etheridge & Rebecca McClary)

We have dedicated much of our professional careers to mental health treatment and crisis intervention though confidentiality restrictions prohibits sharing details about many of our most surreal experiences with well known individuals.

Image

(The "Soloist" Nathaniel Ayers & Rebecca McClary)

I can share though that we supported Nathaniel Ayers the homeless violinist featured in "The Soloist" as well as working directly with actor Sam Elliot and his wife actress Katherine Ross in an Arts in Mental Health program.

Image

(Danny Elfman of Oingo Boingo fame and I in Danny's studio.)

Thanks again to @UnholiestJedi for selecting a theme that allows us to share some of our other interests unrelated to our watch geekery.

Perhaps my witnessing so much hardship and hard work explains my lack of enthusiasm for watch whining and first world problems in general. We all have SO MUCH to be grateful for.

Late cos of the weather 🌧🌩🌊💧 oh and the jar,it tastes far better than it sounds🤪

So this week got away from us. My wife and I were going to do a new lego set and use that for photos but ran out of time. Here's what I had already. The lego photos are just with my son's duplos so not quite right, some potato head star wars, and if you can call my obsession with coffee a fandom...
