I am now 55 and for the first time in over thirty years, bought a car that I want. Not for its utility, not because is the car we need. It is over the top fast and has every bell & whistle. Is impractical, high maintenance and ridiculously fast. Spring is a time for new things. This one is mine.
As a Californian, it's only a matter of time before you hear forest fire season on the weather channel. Thankfully I live in a less risk town, but my family has had some close calls in the past.
My cocktail; a California gin, Grey Whale, with California pomegranate juice, setting the trees a fire in my glass.
The knife is specifically designed for combat. The worst it sees is cardboard.
The watch is a field watch; the military once again influencing the industry. The most action it might see is a day of target practice at the gun range.

Destruction and renewal
The background is old Pepsi and 7up wood boxes that I took apart. Me and my nephew pulled probably 200 seventy year old wood nails out. Stupid things are bombproof, cut my hands up. I repurpose them on my workshop wall and love the old weathered wood.
War and peace .. my Ukrainian colleague worries daily for his family back home, with murderous Russians endlessly trying to kill everyone.
Life/death - my job in cardiac OR and ICU
Focusing on spring - and on renewal…transience of beauty, and the passage of time

"War and Peace"
I did a bunch of things when I was younger. Tae Kwan Do, kick boxing, Kung Fu, and different things from other martial arts. The fighting got me nothing but self discipline except for a discipline to watches. There is none.
I entered a tournament and was matched against a young kid. There were no weight classes or age groups in this tournament. Throwing some simple front kicks, this 12 year old had improper blocking. Needless to say an improper block caused a kick to dislocate this kid's femur from his pelvis. I quit the tournament and never competed again. It was a war not worth fighting.
Now that I peacefully sit here, with a new titanium hip, a new spring beginning, I think of this kid. Did he have to use a walker like me. Not all wars are worth fighting. I hope that he realized it too. It's always better to have peace.
