36 mm Still Makes Sense

I may be in the minority, but I think 36 mm is still a great size for most wrists (not limited to the ladies). I have a 7.5 inch wrist, but my Lorier Falcon Series 3 seems to wear well. My favorite piece right now is my Longines Spirit 37. What do others think? Is 36 a solid choice for larger wrists?

Could not agree more bra, on both counts 😂!

Random bonus of my WMT, good price and ACRYLIC to boot 👌🏻.

I'm eyeing up 2 different watches at the moment.. both 36mm. Just waiting on the January sales, to pull the trigger

·

I agree, I have a couple od 36's.

·

Nothing wrong with 36, it's just perfect a good medium between large and small

·

Wearing a 36 today. A timeless watch: Rolex Datejust

·

But they would look small on Andre the Giant!

In a sane world, no plain three hander needs to be larger and most suffer in looks and comfort when they are.

·

36 is the sweet spot

·

To me it depends on the case. That Lorier looks good on you. It has lugs that tangent off the widest part of the case. I have a similar size wrist and my 38mm Bulova Hack looks as small as I’d go with straighter lugs and more pronounced circular case. I think preference comes in too. 🤷🏻

Team 36 here!

I have 7.75" wrists and I have a few 36mm watches that I enjoy.

36 only makes sense to me as long as case height is sub-12mm (with even 12mm being too much sometimes). Anything more makes the watch look, IMO, silly on any wrist size.

A lot of case sizes make sense depending on how they work with other dimensions.

It's one of those things... if the proportions work for you; if you feel comfortable with them... awesome. Works in the reverse, too. Some tiny people wear big wrist canons and see no issue at all with those, either. Good on them, too. Vitally, however, it doesn't apply to everyone. Folk look at either end of that spectrum and just say, "Nope." This is actually one of my pet peeves in watches - the whole, "It looks good on me, so it must work for everyone!" vibe - when watches are totally subjective and completely personal.

Has anyone seen a watch from before 1960? We went to war on sub-34mm.

·

It looks great 👍

Makes sense for a 5'8" 150lb male. A 2mm increase for men over 6' and 200lbs is probably fine.

So we didn’t have people over 6’ before 1960?

Good to hear this from you who has a 7.5" wrist. Cheers!

·

My preferred size. 7,25 inch wrist.

36mm (+/- 0.5mm) is perfect!

·

Couldn't agree more. 34mm to 36mm always looks good.

It largely depends on lug to lug measurement too 😬

·

Those proportions look comfortable and fun for daily wear!

·

Had the falcon II. totally agree that size is proper vintage vibe

·

What is the lug to lug dimension? It looks big.

The bigger the l2l, the larger the watch appears/wears. Not all 36mm dia watches created equal.

Just saying.

·

I agree with most people here, 36-38 mm is the sweet spot for most wrists. That’s not to say most can’t pull off a 40-42 mm though. I personally think overall design plays a big role in how a watch wears beyond just its diameter.

A 42 diver with a thick bezel has much more wrist presence than a regular 42 just like a 42 field watch - bec the design tends to be very simple and bare - would also look bigger than a regular 42 despite having the same diameter.

P.S. That’s a very beautiful Lorier Falcon you got there. I love Lorier’s designs, pays homage to vintage watches while remaining original and distinctively Lorier.

·

completely agree! I'm at 7in wrist here and I also like 34mm, I suspect we are going to see the smaller sized watch trend continue to gain momentum in 2024

True! I'd need to check the lug to lug but you're right that makes a big difference

My Everest is a 36mm and I love that watch. Feels and looks good. I'd love to get an Explorer sometime. Not too small IMHO.

because we didnt know any better - people back then were deprived, not something to be celebrated. 🤣

·

I totally agree! I have a 7.5” wrist also and have no problem at all with 36mm watches. Think they look great. I have a vintage 34mm mid century dress watch that, while small, looks effortlessly elegant. I feel people make too much of case size.

·

17.8cm wrist

6'4" 279#

36mm is perfection. 38.5mm is my uppermost happy point

34mm is acceptable, depending on watch style
