Easy, 1000 on the watch you want if you are thinking of resale before buying buy nothing.
Wearing a watch is a choice and we are defined by our choices so superficially its easy to imagine we can see a person wearing a watch, understand their choices and so assess their character. Of course it doesnt work that way as we actually have no clue why any specific person made any particular choice so in the end watches tell us nothing about the person wearing it.
But, personally, I do find the reverse hits me - ie I judge watches by who wears them, particularly in the negative. I find the stink of a watch being worn by a person I have no time for tends to stick.
Call me cynical but the moment you've decided to buy a watch that isnt a smart watch you've left intelligent thought behind and all we are doing now is rationalising essentially emotional responses.
Id agree with that, I think people want the drama so they can be the social creature you've described.
Ive said it before but the most ludicrous person in the world is the one using social media to tell people that they dont care about/arent influenced by other other people.
I think the problem here is the number of people that approach watch as consumer products is actually shockingly small - and they gravitate to very specific segments of the market.
nice gear shift from tooly chrono to dress - hey if thats where you are going why not?
a vote in favour of the ophion (coming from a breitling fan) is that this will also be a 'public' as well as a 'private' watch. what I mean is assuming you personally get basically the same excitement from the ophion and the navi (an assumption) then they have the same 'private' value. but the ophion will be a thing of interest with others in a way a rolex/omega/breitling/cartier never will hence great 'public' value.
of course my personal answer is to never sell, just wait, save and have both.
