A Weird Poll

I spent more time trying to work out what a Benji is than what watch I’d prefer (got it eventually). Chrrono all the way. 

I hate the California dial more than I dislike chronographs... but only slightly. 

This poll is more controversial than I anticipated 😂

California über alles

I voted Marlin, but I thought it was the 34mm hand winder and not the 40mm automatic shown. Knowing this, I'd keep the money. I must clarify that I'm fine with quartz, but not with chronos.

Take the Chrono. It's using an Epson movement, so the chronograph hand sweeps. Also the mechanical Cali dial does not hack. I think hacking is a must

Mechanical always. The winding sound has an ASMR vibe. And if it has a display case back, it’s like watching something magical that muggles would not understand 🪄⚙️

Ditto on neither, but would take the Chrono over a Cali. Now had you said Q with dual time bezel...

I love the Cali dial and this Marlin (and Marlins in general). My buddy has that Marlin and it looks great. Here’s mine

Of those two, the chronograph. 

Never had a California dial/numerals/whathaveyous in my collection. Also, I already have a good chrono, so yeah.

I like them both, but the #marlin gets the slight edge because of it's versatility

The Timex Cali looks fun. I'll go with that.

I'll never say never, but... California dials are the antithesis of watch geekery IMO.

We all notice little inconsistencies in watches all the time; too top heavy, font is weird, the text should be lower, etc. Yet, one of the biggest inconsistencies is Arabic & Roman numerals on the same dial and we celebrate it? 

If you like them, more power to you, but they drive me batty. 

I could have 1000 chronographs and I'd still pick another over a California dial; hell, I'd even take a duplicate of a chronograph over a California dial. 

It would have to be a nice strap instead. Cali dial is a no go hot mess to my eye, and a quartz chrono just doesn't float the boat.

Typically I despise California dials, but this one kind of works with the “font“ and dial color chosen. that said, I would never spend more than 2 “benjis” on a California dial. 

I picked the mechanical, because, well...mechanical, but honestly, I can think of much better ways to spend $200 -- such as getting a Seagull 1963 from AliExpress and the best of both of the offered worlds.
