Which Watch Are You Using to Sync Your Clocks?

Daylight Savings Time is that boorish brute like the middle manager who loves to implement a bi-yearly mandatory exercise that is not only mind-numbingly redundant…but archaically-obtuse.

So…if I’m going to be forced to advance my clocks and watches one hour…I might as well do it in style with my GMW-B5000.

What watch are you using to sync your various time pieces?

It’s pretty accurate 🤓

I like the site https://time.is

This is my go to for that!

Love the metal Casioak!

Actually not one of the Casioaks. It’s a g-steel gst-b400d-1aer. But I love it and actually prefered it to the casioak I had.

·

i use time.is all the time to sync my watches lol

I use my digital radio's clock.

Oh right! I’m a little embarrassed I didn’t look more closely at the sub dials.

Atomic GShock all the way as well. Syncs itself daily.

·

I'm using an atomic clock app which basically shows the same time as my phone's clock (varies in 00:00:00:005 but I can't be that accurate setting my time on the watch by hand anyway).

For me it's also my #casio #5610 💪

I gotta say, that G-Shock is the best one I've seen so far. I just looked it up and saw that it was the original 1983 model, very cool.

I have two that I use.

Saturday, I go outside after I wake up, taking sextant measurements every 15 minutes or so until the sun descends from its apex. At that time, I set my water clock (+/- 180 minutes per day). Then I come back the next day a little closer to noon, take measurements again, this time every minute or so, and from this I set the time on my work clock, which is an analog quartz in a 2003 pickup. So far so good. Haven't yet missed a new episode of Psych.

·

I usually use this...

It's VJ32 Quartz movement, replaced last Nov 2021, has only gained 1 second since. Image

I set all of my watches and clocks with my iPhone. By default, iPhone's default clock doesn't have a seconds hand. So I bought a 3rd-party app that displays as an analog clock.

Where do iPhones get their time from?

Quoted from the Quora website:

A: iPhones have an internal device called a MEMS oscillator(from a company called SiTime)

  • MEMS oscillators are smaller and work better at temperature extremes, so they are more suitable for use in iPhones

  • The MEMS unit is very accurate and can keep reasonably accurate time all by itself

  • iPhones need to know what time zone they are in so they check their GPS coordinates to see if they have crossed a time zone, I have done this crossing the US several times and its quite surprising to see it change its own time a while after crossing the time zone border

  • iPhones also check in with the Apple network time servers, at least once every 24 hours, to precisely synchronize their time and to do the Daylight Savings Time adjustments, in areas where that applies

  • Of course Apple high accuracy time servers are synchronized with the official US Navy stratum 1 NTP servers, so they are always correct, and they are separate from anyone’s influence so they protect Apple customer security

  • So the time displayed on an iPhone comes from this path:

  • US Navy stratum 1 NTP servers>Apple stratum 2 server>iPhone>iPhone MEMS oscillator

This is the app I am using. I bought it on the app store about 3 yrs ago for ~$1.99 USD if I remember correctly.

I am using my Seiko SAGZ087 , solar powered and radio connected to an atomic clock, it is a fantastic watch and the benchmark for setting up my other watches.

BTW, I always adjust my watches to the second, do you do the same?

Grand Seiko SBGN003. Not the cheapest way, but looks so nice

It’s a must.

G shock 5000 of course! 😂😂😂

·

My G-shock GBD-200. It is connected via Bluetooth to my phone so the time is always accurate.

·

G-Shock 5610…and a Casio Oceanus…and use for setting all of my run down automatics. Wonderfully accurate. 🥂
