I do believe they may be attempting to have you on. As a buyer, you are protected by the Consumer Rights Act of 2015. In the CRA it states you have the right to 'A product of satisfactory quality', and if said item is not you have the right to a repair, replacement or refund. As said above, you cannot change your mind about which option you want unless you 'allow the chosen retailer reasonable time to complete that chosen remedy'. Six and a half months sounds like more than enough reasonable time
The pinnacle of horology is currently sat in Perth, Australia. It is a variation on the Atomic clock principle, and is accurate to plus or minus one second in 14 Billion years. Basically if someone started that clock at the moment the Lord created all, it would still be dead on. Horology is the study of Keeping time, not the study of Watchmaking. A £5K Grand Seiko Spring drive is not the pinnacle of Horology
