Micro Suggestions

Good day Crunchers,

I'm looking for a colourful watch, preferably from a micro (but it doesn't have to be). It should be on the informal side (although most colourful watches tend to be), a strap monster, min 100m WR, and I'd prefer an exhibition caseback. So basically a GADA that is colourful. I tend to stick to more affordable pieces so my budget is approximately USD1000.

My existing collection:

  • Orient Mako 2 (Black)

  • Tissot Visodate Auto (Silver)

  • Oris Big Crown Pointer (Black)

  • Seiko 5 SPRE53 (DressKX Blue)

  • G-Shock GW-M5610

Any thoughts?

Check out Nodus watches.

Max recently reviewed their Sector Sport Glacial…

They’ve also recently released the Unity, which comes in light blue or pink…

Baltic, Farer, Formex, and Halios

·

I’d vote Farer for fun colorful collections in multiple watch types.

Take a look at Gekota? UK based. I have one but there are a number of different models. A bit under the radar...

Your watch is a beauty. That is sharp. Never heard of E.C.A. Guessing that's a power reserve gauge between 9 and 10?

Yes that is the power reserve, a unique placement and very functional.

Phoibos and Zelos have some nuce colourfull dials. I got this caller gmt for well under your budget.

39mm diameter and 45mm lug to lug with a 20mm lug width and 200m of water resistance. Boldr also might be worth a look if you’d prefer a more field watch look.

And my final pick would be RZE, where you can get a very nice titanium GADA at your price range.

I've got a couple Nodus watches and bought the sector specifically for the red dial. I really like both. I also have been thinking about a Vaer A5 Atlas in Olive. I bought a different Vaer for my son a couple years ago and it's held up very well.

Straum and Zelos

Cheers!

Thanks for the recommendation mate! I’ve never heard of Nodus before, I really dig their Sector GMT especially the Pacific model. It has the pop of colour that I’m after and is a good size as well!

Baltic, Farer, Formex, and Halios

I’ve been looking at (more like salivating) the Formex Essence 39mm for quite some time, but it’s a bit above my budget.

Just a left field thought … with colour in mind …

I know Ali Express and San Martin receive mixed views but if you fancy dipping your toe in the water this is a colourful, original design, NH34 watch that’s currently available in the sale (finishes 18th June) … no caseback but the NH34 isn’t all that to look at.

I’m not on commission but SM and SeaGull watches are the ones that I browse on Ali Express and not been disappointed by either yet.

In my opinion the best offer is Circula. It's a traditional german brand located in Pforzheim Black Forest. It's independent and still family owned (see also my column about Pforzheim). Since few years the Grandson of the founder is managing the company at it did become much lore modern unique and colorful.

The quality is of course very high but the prices are very reasonable.

The lines AuquaSport II and SuperSport could fit to your expectations. As I know they do also ship internationally.

Out Of Order has a fun cocktail shaker series. They come in a shaker. They're 495 euros a piece. But it might not be versatile enough for what you're looking for.

·

Did I hear colorful? Also enjoy the $500 of your $1K budget you'll have left.

FARER all day long

And of course there is AnOrdain . . . but that's not going to happen anytime soon unless you buy used at a premium or opt for their non-enamel dials, which kind of defeats the purpose of the brand imo.

Farer. Right at the price. Colorful and fun, water resistance on point, and it comes with nato, rubber, and bracelets in the box to start you off.

·

Off the top of my head... Revelot, Helm, Sugess

I can recommend the Venezianico Redentore, has everything you ask for except the exhibition caseback. They have a wide range of colorways too

CW Sealander Ombré Green. 👍

Sounds like you're looking for a Studio Underdog

Phoibos eagle ray. Micro brand. Seiko movement (I believe) $375 ish. 200 Meters water resist. Internal bezel. Decent bracelet and obviously a fun colourful dial.
