The Leftfield Choice

You may have seen my post a few months back about my dream watch, the Tudor Black Bay 58 and my experience of trying it on for the first time and being underwhelmed. Well after months of bothering every AD and Boutique in Southwest England I finally settled on my first ever luxury watch..the Breitling Superocean 42!

Now I’ve seen this watch get absolutely torn apart online (mainly because of its movement) but my god there’s just something about this that I can’t put my finger on, it feels beyond special and I’m over the moon with it!

It may be slightly leftfield in the world of divers around this price but if anyone is on the fence about it you’ve got to try it on and hopefully you’ll be hooked like I’ve been!

Very Nice watch! Solid Choice. Sound like you love it and it fits your wrist well.

Every one of us, here on WC, has their dream watch and the pride of their collection, and every one of us is different! You found your new love, so enjoy it and ignore what the haters say! Just for the record, I think it's awesome 😎

·

Looks great! I’ve also considered this one. The look might not be for everybody but I think it definitely stands out. Personally find the Tudor extremely boring and plain looking. Enjoy the new purchase!

·

Tried a bronze one on a while ago and was very impressed

awesome watch enjoy 👍

·

Btw really loving the shot!! Something about!! Love it

·

One of the few watches I can identify at 10'. Classic. 👍

·

Awesome fit for your wrist brothaa… 🖤🖤✨ keep Going

·

Congratulations brotha! My first luxury watch was also a breitling superocean 42 great choice can’t wait to see what else you pick up over the next few years!

·

If it speaks to you then that's all that really matters.

·

Very nice watch! Forget the haters and wear and enjoy that beautiful watch!

·

While my preferred brand is Omega, the Breitling is a winner and I would choose it over a Tudor anytime. Congrats!

·

It's definitely a winner!

·

Love it! Gotta choose to buy what speaks to you. Fits perfectly on your wrist.

I recently purchased a Monta Noble. For it being my first “expensive” watch, I was worried that I should be buying a bigger brand, the likes of Longines, Hamilton, even NOMOS or Sinn. But in my 12+ months of looking and going through phases of loving different watches, I always came back to the Noble, so I knew it had to be the one. Congrats on making your purchase as well!

One of my absolute favorite new watch releases of the past few years!

With regard to the movement, that is the best choice you could have ever made. Which would I rather have?

  1. A proprietary, in-house movement that has no history of proven reliability, and that ties you entirely to a given company and their service operations, or...

  2. A workhorse movement that has proven quality and reliability over decades on end, that is cheap, easy, and fast to fix / service?

I think the question answers itself!!!

·

Sharp! Doesn’t look like every other diver out there. 👍🏻

Came here to make this exact point! In-house movement doesn't always equal "better." Plus, my understanding is Breitling (and many other brands within this tier) does their own regulating/finishing so it's not as if they're sticking in a movement straight out of the box.

·

Nothing wrong with that movement. There are some advantages actually. Enjoy and wear in good health!

·

Really great shot to show off the watch. Definitely an eye catcher. And I love those hands 👊🏻

·

Fantastic! Looks like the 42 is a great fit for you. Congrats!

·

I love my SuperOcean - I’ve got the Heritage II chrono

I thought the movement in yours was a Tudor anyway lol

Can’t beat a Breitling (and I also chose mine after poring over Pelagos and Black Bay for several days)

For me the finish is exquisite and it has a lot of presence

Not hating on Tudor in any way - still want one. But Breitling is an excellent choice 👌

·

One you go brietling you don't go back 😉

·

One thing I like about the Breitling Super Ocean is that it has a different vib than almost all the other divers. I am a fan.

·

That's a great looking watch. It has personality and stands out in the crowd of dive watches. Enjoy!!

·

I have this same watch and I absolutely love it. It’s unique the bracelet is comfortable and it fits in regardless of the situation! Wear it in good health!

·

I like your Breitling much more than that rather staid Tudor; it's unique and very good looking. I owned an Avenger 2 Seawolf years ago with their modified ETA 2824-2 and it was extremely accurate and very high quality - loved that watch. I think you undoubtedly made the right move, here. Congratulations on your beautiful new piece.

·

Also, the ETA 2824-2 is not a cheap movement; like your Superocean, it's high quality, robust, reliable and will last forever - just wind it as little as possible.

·

I love this piece, people can hate it all they like it has so much character, the handset and indexes are spot on

·

Now it makes you surf like Kelly Slater sign me up ! It’s a good looking watch :)

·

Very nice SuperOcean congrats

·

Felt the same way about my Tudor Royal. Didn't think I would fall in love until I had it on my wrist.
