I like to use toothpicks because they are less likely to leave scratch marks. They are also handy (in a pinch) for light cleaning in the nooks and crannies of bands

It's amazing how clean that dial is, you would expect a few cracks after 140+ years. Is the dial enamel or porcelain. I'm sure a watch of that vintage has a few dates inscribed on the inside of the case showing when it was serviced
