Help me choose my wedding watch!

Hi team, despite not even being engaged yet (ring is currently being made), I'm that much of an enthusiast, I'm already planning what watch I'd like to wear on my wedding day. I've crunched all the numbers, compared all the stats, but would welcome some feedback from the community. I'm looking for a classic but semi sporty dress watch, with blue or blue accents. Here's what I'm thinking: 1) JLC Reverso Duoface, small seconds, large. PRO: Higher Horology than the others, GMT 2 face w/ lume. CON: Most expensive, 42 hour power reserve, low water resistance, manual wind (I already have a speedy pro, and don't really need another manual watch) 2) Cartier Santos, Medium. PRO: Automatic, 100m WR, lowest price out of the bunch. CON: Simple and too boring? Will I get tired of it? 3) Rolex, DJ36, Blue fluted motif dial, smooth bezel, Jubilee. PRO great power reserve, WR & Lume and an absolute classic. CON Likely have to deal with Rolex BS, and probably wait 1-2 years. You input would be greatly appreciated!

I'd get the Santos.

·

Congrats! :)

All 3 are perfect for your purpose :)

I would pick the Duoface. So you can switch from church to party time ^^

·

All are awesome. Throw a dart and You will not go wrong.

·

Go round. Don't wait for it though. You don't need a watch to get married.

Does the other party have an opinion?

·

The DJ 36 is timeless and classic! I'd recommend paying out extra for the fluted bezel, unless you don't like the aesthetics of it. My grail is the White Roman 36 with fluted bezel and jubilee.

Assuming you’re not having a super casual wedding, and your future spouse doesn’t have an opinion (based on the watch or the motif of the wedding), I’d vote Santos. That said, if this one particular moving part of your wedding planning doesn’t pan out for any reason, whatever watch you throw on that day will become your wedding watch and will thereafter be a treasure. Congratulations in advance!

·

All 3 are great and you can’t go wrong with either However these are my thoughts:

JLC - those in the know will look up to you in the knowledge that you are refined and cut through hype for the truth

Santos - classy but scratches if you look at it

Rolex - the girls will love it and every bloke will ask if it’s a real one

I think you're putting the cart before the horse.

Is she going to say yes?

I don't want you to buy an expensive watch only for it to remind you of something you don't want to remember...

·

JLC all the way! It's in a league of it's own!

Very valid point! Whatever I wear that day will be special.

Haha, true. I think I got it on lock :)

Well, that's good news-  Buy the Rolex.

I guarantee in 30 or 40 years you'll not regret it!

·

Rolex ,no question, looks great with a suit and with casual clothes so can be worn during the wedding then on honeymoon, congrats if she says yes

·

They had a guy on Antique Roadshow, who bought a Rolex in 1973.  He paid $534 for it and has the box and receipts.  They told him that today its worth at least $100,000.

From your selection I choose the JLC.

I married twice, in the same week but crucially with the same girl, in two different countries.

Looking back now I think just a simple, thin and very classic watch would have been the best for me.

Just for attire sake.

Anything dressy that survives four full days of drinking, sweating and dancing in a blessed rampage is instantly elevated to pre-retirement, only to be cherished as a ceremonial veteran from that day forward.

All the best to you guys!
I hope you have as much fun as I did in mine 😉

Cartier is a current fad. It’ll be forgotten in a few years like it’s been for the past 50.
JLC is a classic — but only valuable to other watch needs. No “oooh” factor. I think a wedding watch needs more appeal.
Finally — the “Rolex”. Great choice. Love the dial and the smooth bezel. Hands down winner for me.

·

All great choices.

for your purpose that datejust should have a fluted bezel I think! Don’t think you would have to wait forever for it..

for cartier do also consider the tank must (Quartz or better solarbeat.) I think it’s more elegant for a day like a wedding.

·

Glorious JLC 😉

I'd vote JLC -- but again, biased:

All of them are excellent choice.  You can’t really make a mistake here with any of these.  I would personally go for a timeless DJ but like @jakaplan4 suggested, fluted bezel maybe more unless you genuinely don’t dig it.  Got mine 4 weeks ago from my AD, the Rolex market is getting more fluid, you should get “the call” soon.  Little tip: be “flexible”…. I told my AD that I wanted a DJ36 fluted motif dial, fluted bezel on jubilee in blue (sticks or diamonds), ended up with diamonds.

All great choices. You could get the single sided Reverso and engrave it.

Or you could buy the santos from the Rolex AD and put your name down for the Date Just.  If you honestly say it’s for your wedding, you’ll probably get the watch soon, and if not then you still have the santos which is a killer watch.

·

I would go with the JLC.  To me, it is the more unique watch to mark a special and unique occasion.

That being said, one of the best comments was to get the perspective of your future spouse.  I've been married to my wife for 18 years and couldn't imagine not getting her opinions.  Keep in mind that she knows nothing about watches.  Getting her/his impressions on a special occasion watch allows you to share your passions with the person who means the most to you.

Good luck with the proposal and many happy wishes to you both.

·

I would go with the JLC.  Even though I like Cartier's, the Santos does nothing for me.  If I was to go with the Cartier, I would go with the Cartier Tank.  The Rolex is a good option if you definitely want blue but the fluted bezel is essential.  The JLC Reverso is timeless and not convinced the duo-face is required.  Personally I like gold with formal wear but you cannot go wrong with the JLC Reverso.

The JLC is infinitely cool and under the radar while still sharp as hell in the wrist.  Also it is finished To a higher standard than the others.  Plus if you’re worried about bordom you get two faces to last you longer.

 BUT

try before you buy, I’d own one myself but just don’t think they fit my wrist properly.  Or at least not one I’ve tried on.

·

Congrats!  The JLC! You can wear it to the rehearsal dinner and the wedding. You have to have Two outfits, Might as well have Two watches for the price of One!

BONUS! You just saved money to put towards another watch! 👍

·

I'd say...go with the Santos. Buy a couple of straps to go with it and you're good.

That said, go with what makes you happy and congratulation on your upcoming nuptials! 🍻

·

I've owned the JLC and Santos, I miss the Santos a bit more.  Try the different sizes of both, they wear quite a bit differently than a normal round watch.  A big reason I sold them is tha  I realized I wanted a smaller size.  I will probably come back to each someday.

I also have a DJ, they are great, but I just think the others somehow mark/fit the occasion better.  You can always pick up a DJ later and there will always be a "reason" to do so.  😂

JLC is the best looking imo, and you get 2 for the price of 1!

You get 2 for the price of 10 :)

·

JLC without a question. Even from a watchmaking perspektive i think the JLC is on another level compared to the other two

·

The JLC is by far the best option for me. Not only would I love to own it someday, the face normies make when you switch faces is priceless.
