I am all over the map. Most days I just wear one per day, unless I am traveling I will wear one watch for up to a week. Yesterday I wore six different watches as I was trying to get them wound up after the weekend.
It is not the numbers for me, in my case it is seeing the hands. Two of my watches in particular - both white dials with multiple hands. My opaline colored Tudor GMT and Omega Speedmaster with the date hand - I have issues seeing the time in certain light. With the GMT I have issues differentiating the GMT hand from the minute hand, and on the Speedmaster I have trouble differentiating the date, chrono and minute hands. My fading vision does not help matters. Putting on my glasses helps!
You need to get him an automatic! I would suggest a Seiko or an Islander. You can always get him one of the inexpensive chinese made watches? I've purchased myself one - looks like a Rolex knock-off - and comes with a Seiko movement, so it will last a while!
