Wedding watch delivered!
After more than 2 years of obsessive research into what would become my “wedding watch,” I’m pleased to report the long journey is complete. Next July, my fiancé and I will marry and I will celebrate sporting the Grand Seiko spring drive white birch. I couldn’t be more excited!
I had a number of close contenders: Cartier Santos Medium - a classic, but a bit too plain with no date and a closed caseback. JLC’s reverso duoface, an icon with lots to play with and duel time functionality. However, JLC’s aggressive price increase this past year made it out of reach. And finally I considered the Rolex datejust 36 on jubilee with blue fluted motif. But despite my great respect for the brand, I am still so put off by the Rolex buying experience that I wanted to support and enjoy another brand who’s working harder for my business.
I’ve been following Grand Seiko’s impressive growth and fanfare over the last 5 years. I think their white birch is a future classic that will sit high in their catalogue for years to come. After weighing the options between the hi-beat, and spring drive, I chose the SLGA009 because of the details. An extra wide date with no double mark around the date window, a polished cap on the hand-stack and a cleaner, less “blingy” dial which in my opinion works better as a long term daily wearer. And above all, I wanted to experience that beautiful spring drive sweep!

@hubb77 Yes! I couldn't possibly wait that long. But I will likely put it on a black alligator strap for the big day.
Congrats! My wife is not much of a watch person but a few years ago felt guilty that she no longer gifts me anything at all after so many years of marriage, picked up my new GS WHITE BIRCH High beat watch sitting on our dining room table, said that she would pay for the watch,if I needed some help with the bill? Lol. Still waiting for a cheque. I am waiting for the spring drive model that coaxes my credit card out into the light.
