Blancpain or JLC?

I'm looking to take a step up for my next piece and really want a higher horology dress watch. My budget is not at Vacheron, Patek or AP level, so I'm thinking JLC or Blancpain will be as close as I'll get to the big 3. Alot of Reverso's and Villeret are close in market price and having a tough time deciding.

What's your opinion on both brands and the Villeret Complete Calendar vs a Duoface, or calendar Reverso ? I've heard the service bills for JLC can be rough. Any experience with either? Would love your feedback!

That is not the BP I'd choose. That'd be the Bathyscaphe. I may add one at some point. The Reverso is an icon. I own a Duo and it's special. It's also versatile and the watch in my collection I switch straps on more than all the others. Also, it's two watches in one!

The Reverso.

The Credor

·

JLC all the way!

·

Both cool, but I’d go with the JLC. They are truly something very special on the wrist.

·

I have a Reverso and Master Control so I am very bias. Go try them on and see which one you like the best. The warranty on the Reverso is extended to 8 years once you register. Check with your AD and ensure that is the case for the watch you purchase. Enjoy the journey.

I'd have to say the Reverso.

I've got three now and they are fantastic...

JLC will be my next after the IWC I bought.

Strictly buying three letter acronym watches from this point on…

·

Reverso for me. It is the more popular watch.

Don't have anything against Blancpain. But I like their Fifty Fathoms more.

·

From those two options, I would clearly go for Reverso. This is something different: the shape, the history, the correct watchmaker... But take a DuoFace. It is like 2 in 1.

You have good choices. I have no experience with the Blancpain but have two JLCs. A reverso classic duo and a Hometime. No service on either. Both run at about +2 . Finishing on both is excellent. The reverso will always get you noticed. The hometime is a sleeper. So no contest for me it’s the JLC .

Is that the 45 million year accurate moonphase?

It's amazing how many people say that. Seems JLC really is magic.

Yep, it’s one of the favorites in my collection.

Reverso Duoface! I’m biased as I own one.

I love the face of the moon on Blancpain. But I’d prefer Bathyscaphe moonphase. (Too big for my wrist unfortunately.)

You could also look at Breguet. They are expensive new but the price drops a lot for used ones unlike the holy trinity.

Forgot to answer your question on JLC service cost.

I can only speak from my experience but I don’t find it expensive.

I bought Master Control Geographic in year 2000. It ran smoothly until 2020 without any service.

When it finally broke, it cost me about 800USD. Not bad given the world time complication.

·

JLC I think. 😀

·

Have you considered the VC fiftysix. It’s actually at the same price like the pieces above on the secondary market.

·

I’d go for the Blancpain, in rose gold.

·

I didn't read your post ... Just the title. JLC!!!!!

It is certainly more accurate than any mechanicsl watch.

·

You cannot really go wrong with either - both are fabulous companies, and either watch will likely hold its value if bought used. When making a similar decision, I opted for a BP Leman - so versatile :)

Have both brands. Finishing and movements are similar on both. Really a matter of which design do you like better and how they feel on the wrist.

JLC is a superb watch manufacturer. However, the Blancpain are on another level. Their overall finishing and attention to detail is superior. Either though would make me very happy.

JLC has awesome watches but i’m not a fan of the Reverso.

i’d go for a Master Calendar
