Help me pick between the two!

Im looking for a daily watch to wear. Im stuck between the seiko alpinist and the baby alpinist. Both i think double as dress and everyday watch really well.

Anyone own both and have something to say about this topic?

Baby!

The one on the bracelet. No cyclops or inner compass bezel thing.

·

My vote is the SBEJ005

The original alpinist for me, i dont like the baby alpinist

·

The baby looks more rugged, which I like. But honestly, the cyclops is an absolute dealbreaker for me 👎

·

i wasn't impressed by the printed numerals on the baby alpinist also the normal alpinist just oozes character

·

The OG...

·

my vote is baby. love clean design

·

Whats the reason people dont like cyclops? I think its great

·

On my small wrist, I would go with the baby for the size. However, the original style has the better details and design to my eye. I’m no help I suppose 🤷🏻‍♂️

·

The Baby is clean and simple, the original more classic yet complex. The baby is for me, because i own complex watches and am looking for simplicity. For me, less is more.

A colleague wore the Alpinist with the compass ring the day we had the corporate Christmas dinner. It looked perfect - appropriate and interesting in the office and very dressy at the restaurant.

·

Easy! The one without the giant one-eyed creature.

It like a wart on a face. Once you see it you can't look at anything else. It's lop sided and spoils the symmetry plus it plays merry hell with my OCD.

Hey Les,

I like the Alpinist’s history more - although you could argue that this variant has nothing to do with the 1959 Alpinist. But after trying both, I have to say the Baby Alpinist wears better on my 6.3” wrist. Not sure if your wrist is similar to mine, if it is perhaps you’ll experience the same feeling.

The Baby Alpinist also has the benefit of less design errors bec it lacks the outer ring which has the potential of being misaligned. For those two reasons, I’d vote for the Baby Alpinist myself.

I can't help, I love both of those!

·

I have a simple solution, I bought both.

Sarb017 , the true alpinist

What are your points of contention?

My dealbreaker are the crown guards and the compass. Also, Baby has a domed crystal and a more interesting dial texture and gradient. .

On the other hand, the 121 has applied indexes and the 155 doesn't.

Cyclops can be easily removed, so that shouldn't be a factor. I also don't care whether the second hand is orange or not, while some people do. Stock bracelets are generally recommended, but some people don't like Seiko bracelets.

·

Both are too good 😁

·

The baby alpinist is incredible. Maybe it loses a little bit of „Alpinist“ touch but is a more modern and versatile interpretation for me. Plus if you can get a watch on the bracelet don‘t hesitate.

·

Alpinist proper, it has real character, is a Seiko classic and looks great on Jubilee or BoR.

·

the one on the bracelet has the cleaner design.

·

Baby

·

The one on the left with the bracelet, it's cleaner and slicker

·

Go original.

·

I own the Alpiniste with the mountain glacier dial, which in my opinion is the nicest option. That said, if there was a Baby Alpinist version I would have preferred it. The internal bezel tends to move on it's own, and I'm no fan of the Cyclops

·

I’ve owned the baby Alpinist. It’s a great piece. Wears very well and has a great case design.

·

You need the compass dial on the big one, you’ll get lost if you get the baby. You can thank me later.
