SOTC: Just got laid off 😩
I feel like I owe it to the community... someone has to share bad financial news to balance out all the windfalls and milestones that we talk about. Yes, I just lost my dental plan.
I've been working two jobs while knowing that one company was inevitably going under, so this is more of a relief than a surprise. However, it does officially end the era where I can guiltlessly put $600/month into men's fashion. This SOTC probably closes the book for 2023.
It's been a fun year of post-covid business events, trying on a lot of Western clothes, and buying my first truly expensive, you-paid-how-much wristwatch. (It's the Citizen in the middle. Yeah, I didn't want anyone to actually notice.)
I'm pleased to say that becoming known as "the battery change guy" at church has let me start building a sub-collection at that most attractive price of $0... almost entirely cheap, tiny ladies watches, but I actually quite like the latest, a unisex Bulova day-date. (Mind it's never a good idea to say you don't like a gift from a church lady.)
Overall: this all was truly disposable income, so it's a little sad that the ride is over, but I'm not too bent that it happened when it did. I think I've managed to build up a pretty eclectic collection where I'll rarely be hard up to match a particular outfit or situation.
Just let me know if you hear about any <$20 AliExpress sales...

Sorry to hear about that chapter in your life happening. I hope everything works for you. There isn’t a rush to add to your collection. If you need to get your finances in check then you have to pause the watch buying for a whole.

Yeah, I've been waiting on my SSI since February, been approved but the process review is going on 6 months!! Nickel and dime'n it for sure!! Been holding off for the most part, I did sneak a new 1 in the box a few months ago however, ISL-54 to the rescue!!

My friend @sagebrush it's the closing of a good chapter, congratulations on completing it successfully, I am proud of you and I hope you are proud of yourself, showing yourself that you can dedicate time, energy, effort and persistence. Well you still have an amazing collection. Want for nothing and just keep it fresh with strap changes until things change. However even if those were the only watches you would ever have. Your still sitting pretty flush with great options in the box... er paper rolls🍻

Thank you! Two Swatches from 2019ish. I believe the left one was called "Multiboost" and was apparently inspired by medication... sure. The right one would be a Pride Month release.

The orange is really pretty! It's made out of some kind of unusual matte-finished metal that changes value significantly depending on the viewing angle. I haven't worn it nearly enough, but at least my excuse is that I bought it for hiking and I also haven't hiked nearly enough.

Life is life! You do not read like a man who stays down. I can empathize since in my own life, every event that is good or great is followed by something more challenging but we do get through rough patches.
