Do you set your watch?

I've recently started watching "About Effing Time". Too bad that they discontinued the show, though.

But what always annoys the heck out of me is that their watches are never set to the correct time. This also seems to be a thing with many celebrities who wear their watches solely as a flex but I wouldn't have expected that from the AEF crew.

So what about you? Do you set the watch you wear to the correct time?

And those who don't, I would really appreciate a comment why not.

And that's your only issue with AET 😜

·

I can only understand not setting a watch, if it no longer works. People wear sentimental pieces like this all the time.

·

Is that a watch discussion/review site?

It's a YouTube series / Podcast

·

I set my watch to the correct time whenever I wear any specific watch, unless it's quartz

·

I suspect the unset time is an affectation to seem cool... it's seems like the sort of thing those guys would do.

·

I set the time once and only change it if needed.

So if the watches shown are just there for the sake of discussion what does it matter if they are set to the same time?

·

I've a number of radio controlled clocks dotted around

I look to see if I'm adrift & adjust, maybe, at plus or minus 10

Or maybe not 🤔

·

I usually set my watch but only to maybe plus or minus a few minutes. On average I've found I completely forget to set my watch 1 or 2 times per week.

My watches are 90% jewellery/art piece 10% time teller and I wear a Garmin 24/7 that's perfectly accurate all the time so I don't stress the mechanical stuff.

That’s a very fair point!

·

I always set my watch to the correct time & date.

I mean it makes sense that the watches aren’t set if they are pulled from the watch box of a vault. Or are you saying that the watches on their wrists were wrong? That would be weird.

·

Once in the history of ever did I not set my watch when I put it on and that was only because it was showing the time I picked it up at.

Didn't look at the date cuz I just assumed the watch was still running.

·

This reminds me of the $17,000 Gold Apple Watch that some celebrities wore, but never got past the setup screen.

·

If you don’t set the time, its just a weird bracelet.

·

Ofc I use it to check the time but when somebody asks I usually round it to the nearest 5

And it’s much politer to check the time with turn of the wrist than drag out a phone during a conversation/meeting!

Looks like it’s a hair past a freckle there. Hope I’m not the only one that knows that phrase 😁😉

I generally enjoyed their shows...😜

·

In the words of Jay-Z “Ball so hard got a broke clock, Rollies that don’t tick tock. Audemars that’s losing time”. Jk I set my watches, I’m not a psychopath

·

I use it to tell time as well as my only real jewelry, so yeah, I set them to the second, and once they get a minute or two off, I set them back.

It's the watches they are wearing during the show. They start each episode taking them off and showing them.

But maybe they put them on just before and didn't/don't wear them for the rest of the day, I don't know.

Pretty sure the start of each episode is just for visuals. Thet probably switch to the the real watches they are wearing after the recording. Makes zero sense that watch guys wouldn't set their watches

·

I set the time to a rough approximation. Within a minute or two is good enough. 😊

·

Unless you’re Andy Warhol, set it.

As he said about his own Tank (paraphrasing), “I don’t wear a Cartier to tell the time. I wear it because it’s the watch to wear.”

·

I only set the time if I'm going to wear the watch, but most of my watches are quartz anyway so the time setting is less frequent than one would from a mechanical majority collection

·

What's the point of wearing a watch other than telling accurate time? If you want to "flex', wear a diamond encrusted bracelet or the like.

But to answer the question, yes, always, normally to an radio signal atomic clock sync clock or to an internet time service when away from home. How else can I "bitch" or "praise" the precission of the watch? 😂

·

Checked my watch this morning, and it was one second fast. Why would I go through the effort of setting it?

·

Of course i do. What sense could it be possibly make wearing a time device that s not showing the (more or less) correct time

·

I set it synced literally to the second.

Thwy can really get a gold chain instead, you know what I mean?

I respect my watches and the craftsmanship behind them.
