Should I pull the trigger?

Hi crunchers,

I recently tried this vintage cartier “ceinture” from the 70s in very good condition and I absolutely love it. Yes it’s small but that’s what I love about it. Full gold case. Hand wound ETA movement. I have a good deal with a reputable seller.

Any experience with vintage Cartiers? What do you think about this watch?

Thank you!

You like it. That’s all that matters.

It’s a little small if it were for me. I like the shape.

What’s the size of this watch?

·

@MultiX thanks! I completely understand that some people will find this too small! It’s 25 or 27mm, I’m not 100% sure. Tiny thing in the end 🤏

My older brother was the smartest goofball you could hope to ever meet, he promised the father of his longtime lady friend that he would propose marriage after securing employment in his profession as a graduate architect. Instead he squanders his pay checks on first a 1970s Cartier Santos and later a gold Cartier( suspect it is the model you are considering). Sadly my brother passed but both his Cartier watches serviced only once are often worn by my sis in law. The watches were originally left to his son but even the gold and steel Santos wears a little small especially since my nephew never wears a timepiece anyways. The ETA movements are bullet proof, my brother did not baby his watches so I see few concerns beyond the size.

This piece looks absolutely stunning! Do you have any reference you can provide?

At least we know you are a confident dude that doesn’t have to over compensate. 😆

·

Can you read the time at a glance? Then it is not too small.

·

Eta movements (handwound ones) are great movements. Easy to repair. If the seller is reputable, go for it.

Sometimes you just want to wear a small watch. It is very comfortable! It looks good.

Wearing this today. But size wasn't the issue for you.

·

You love it and are getting from a reputable seller, no issues here.

·

That is a classy piece for sure! I think it's really unique!

·

I also think it is a little small for your wrist but if you love it, go for it. I'm not the one who will be wearing it afterall.

·

Less is more. Buy it.

·

Yes it's small, but not too small imho. Classy watch 😉👍🏻

·

I think it's great! If you like it you should go for it. Reliability etc all good I think. The only thing I might change personally would be the strap? It looks like a nice one, but I think a darker strap actually would suit the watch more.

To each their own…

Couple of months ago I wore a vintage Bulova that my father-in-law gave to me and my wife just laughed as it was so tiny on my wrist. It’s trending now to wear a smaller watch “About effing time” has mentioned it on videos!

I’m OK with it if you are, you won’t catch me laughing at you. 👍

·

go for it, it is a beauty..

Thanks for your comment. I love this strap but I plan on buying a black one to add more diversity!

😂 I appreciate it!

·

at first glance it looks too small...but that just makes it badass looking on your wrist

·

Personally I love how these smaller watches look on some men. If it compliments your outfit and fits the day I’m sure it’ll look great. It’s a real classic watch that’ll look good forever. I think a smaller piece like this, or a bigger one for that matter, just takes a bit of confidence in the look and comfort of it.

·

I think that’s a lovely piece. I would snag it if everything checks out.

·

Vintage watches seem to be making a comeback. I personally have a smaller wrist and would enjoy this piece 👍

·

[…] and I absolutely love it

Isn’t that already enough to pull the trigger? 😄 go for it

·

My wife said my 37mm watch is too small.

I will now show her your wristshot.

·

It’s your decision. No one else can make it for you. But if you love it …

·

No personal experience with vintage Cartier. The watch looks good!

·

Sorry it’s too dainty for me I would be too afraid of breaking it ! If you love it wear it :)

·

Very nice find. Looks amazing and size is perfect. I would go for it.

·

You used the word “love” when describing the Cartier…enough said 🤙❤️🎯

·

That’s a beautiful watch and if you like it then go for it. I particularly love the Ceinture and with that Paris at the bottom even better.
