Your next watch?

So I wanted to make a post to get some feedback.

1.What’s everyone’s “Grail” watch?

2.What Watch are you eyeing to buy next for your collection?

3.What’s your favorite watch in your collection?

4.Why?

1. 3 hand date Calatrava

2. Rolex OP, Omega Seamaster AT, GS Spring Drive (trouble picking)

3. Seiko Prospex SPB 187

4. It’s the perfect watch for me. Great blue dial, cool bezel, well finished case, goes well with any strap/bracelet.

I love that! There are so many options out there and Grand Seiko is really amazing!

  1. Vacheron Constantin Overseas Gold/Bluedial

  2. Seiko SPB299 and Seiko SPB153 are the ones to join the collection next month.

  3. Seiko SPB239

  4. Very versatile for a dive watch and I keep grabbing it when I'm in doubt about what to wear.

At this time, I'm not sure if there's any one watch on my radar to which I'd assign grail status.

Lately I've taken an interest in collecting vintage Seikos (mostly from the 70's, but some from the 60's and 80's as well). I already have a good number of automatics and am pivoting back towards quartz. Beyond that I haven't settled on a specific reference that I want to add to the collection yet.

Oof, your last question is tough. Since it's the easy choice, I'll go with my recently acquired 0634-5000 Seiko Quartz LC, made in September of 1975. It's a beautifully preserved retro cool digital watch.

  1. Can’t think of a grail watch at the moment cuz why pick one when you want them all lol

  2. I am debating a mint dial Islander watch when I go to WindUp in July. For sure though is a Doxa Sub 200 in aquamarine because I already set up my auto transfer savings with my bank for it. I am considering it a Christmas gift to myself. 😬

  3. Rolex OP silver dial 26 mm. Its my first Swiss watch I got for my birthday this year. It fits me well, has timeless looks, and I hope to pass it down to my niece someday.

I LOVE SEIKO! The vintage look goes very clean!

Literally for me its always different ones everyday! The Doxa is one I have eyed for months. Love the color and I am in a place where I have my neutral colored dials covered.

  1. It's a tough call between a JLC Reverso Classic and the Grand Seiko SBGJ251

  2. Junghans Max Bill Automatic or the Sinn 356 Pilot II (copper dial)

  3. Sinn 556A RS

  4. The 556 is my first (and very recently purchased) mechanical watch. I smile every time I look at it.

·

1) Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra - Terra Cotta

2) Vario Versa - it would be a unique piece

3) Hamilton Field Khaki Automatic

4) Just plain boring and nothing fancy but reliable AF…kinda like me.

·
  1. VC 222

  2. Bulgari Octo Roma

  3. Omega Speedmaster

  4. The Speedy was a gift from my wife that sparked my interest in collecting watches that ultimately led to this thread.

·
  1. Something that may not exist. A Junghans Bundeswehr J88 with a white dial or a 1st generation Certina DS Amagnetic with a Kontiki-style dial... that sort of thing.

  2. If I were buying at this precise moment it would be a petrol blue Citizen Tsuyosa. But that could change tomorrow.

  3. Serica 4512 WMB on an Uncle 1479 Speedmaster bracelet.

  4. Perfect size, bracelet fits it wonderfully, looks fantastic, nobody knows what it is.

·

1. Don’t have a grail.

2. The Mido Ocean Worldtimer Decompression has really caught my eye.

Image

3. My favourite changes regularly but the Clemence Photic is probably the one that gets named most often.

Image

4. It’s a diver my favourite type of watch, looks great, a very comfortable size and I still can’t stop looking at it when it’s on, the only thing I miss on it is a date.

·
  1. G-shock frogman.

  2. Casio EAW-MRW-200H

  3. Casio Royale

  4. Look nice and easy to mod.

·
  1. Omega Railmaster Denim

  2. Farer 36mm GMT

  3. Nezumi Corbeau

  4. It was a gift from my wife, and I love the all-brushed case.

Don't have the Laurent Ferrier...though I was tempted...

I do have the LUC XPS...

Image

It is a magnificant watch! Just completely luscious...

I also have the Montblanc 1858 Iced Sea in green...

Image

Seriously man, wow nice. I don't know LUC very well, but saw how beautiful that green guilloché looks and that sparkly case back, I wanted to see one in person.

The Laurent Ferrier is the sleekest pretty little thing ever. Was tempted as well, but I don't do dress watches so often.

Sick collection.

1.What’s everyone’s “Grail” watch?

Not sure I have a grail, as that concept changes for me often. But I’d love a Lange 1 Time Zone. Got to try one on in NYC last year and I think about it often.

2.What Watch are you eyeing to buy next for your collection?

Torn between a Rolex Datejust and an H Moser Pioneer small seconds (the red dial).

3.What’s your favorite watch in your collection (and why)?

Easy, my GS SLGH009. It’s the one I stare at most when wearing and it’s an amazing daily. Plus, the movement is nearly as gorgeous as the case and dial.

Was this written by chat gpt?

Since the link actually led to a page of Pateks, probably not.

Thanks for the kind words.

I was able to get the LUC recently...only 50 of those made...came out in 2022 and was supposedly sold out.

I was fortunate to meet one of the top Chopard guys at Watches & Wonders in Geneva, and he found me one of the last ones out there. I think it was only still around because it had a "4" in the numbering. Bad luck for some...good luck for me...that's the second limited edition I scored because it had a "4" in the numbering. Certain collectors won't buy it because of "bad luck" or "death", and others won't buy because they are afraid of it not retaining value due to a more limited possibility of selling it.

I don't sell my watches...so the number does not bother me.

Hasn't brought me bad luck so far 😉

Yeah, 4 means death in Chinese but who cares! I'm not superstitious either. Great story and luck.

I've never been to w&w or the predecessor of it. I have to make my way there sometime. Are you in the trade or just a private enjoyer of watches?

·

1. H moser streamliner with the green dial

2. Omega speedy

3. Grand seiko SBGA 415

4. A perfect versatile watch, under the radar, and sweeping spring drive movement just takes me by awe everytime

I was invited by Montblanc to attend. Also, got the chance to take a tour of the Minerva Atelier.

Excellent trip!
