Personally I like Junghans the most, but there's a lot more in the sub $1k category; Sternglas, Aristo, Kronsegler, Uhren van Uhr, Circula, Archimede, NB Yeager, Dekla, Schaumburg, Eza.

Bump 'affordable' up to $2k and you can add Churpfรคlzische, Milus, Damasko, Jean Marcel, Alexander Shorokhoff, Schaeuble & Sohne, Guinand, and, maybe, Wempe.

Hey @Porthole, what's the source on that graph? I did a similar thing and am interested in the methodology.

Mine was pulled from Chrono24 listings a couple of years ago (that is to say, unscientific AF and before the recent smaller size trend really got rolling):

There's a black GMT version on Gnomon for $868.

The British watch-making industry in the 19th century was plagued by what were called "Dutch Forgeries" that eventually led to the collapse of the industry. These were brought into England from Holland but the fact is they were being made in Switzerland.

What goes around comes around.

Who else makes movements at scale? China. Yema in France does as well, but not to the degree Seagull does (and not nearly as "in-house" as Seagull either). Heck, Vostock in Russia is also a fully integrated manufacturer.

The UK and the USA may have nice watch designers, but they have virtually no watch-making capability at all anymore. They're almost all farmed out to China (and to a far lesser degree Switzerland, Japan and Germany) for actual manufacture.

commented on Why are these types of watches not made now?! ยท

The death of elegance.

The good watches are out there (the continued existence of the Omega De Ville for instance), but they're not popular with the kind of people who desperately care what other troglodytes on the internet think of them.

In fact, Omega makes like 200 different men's watches. You see approximately two of them on here with any regularity.

Nope. All of my watches are GWIGADWIDs. They go where I go and do what I do.
