Here's my take on the new Patek "Dad Jeans" Nautilus that debuted at Watches and Wonders 2024.

Curious to know what you guys think of the new casual wardrobe. Yes to the denim? No? Maybe, not sure yet?

Love it! I like different.

Price apart (which is definitely uncool) I think this is one cool watch. Love the Nautilus look (especially in the chrono version) and that denim strap complements the dial very well actually. I have no qualms about wearing my (very, very old :) rose gold VC with jeans and hoody, think Patek gives a nice statement here: it’s not all about bling and precious metals. So, yes to the denim 👍🏻

Kind of like a Timex Weekender with diamonds.

Worlds collide.

·

Love the colour of the dial and the texture not sure about the denim strap , would have preferred a silver bracelet or black rubber

·

When I saw the Nautilus for the 1st time in 2006 I thought Patek designed a beautiful bracelet and wanted to put a watch on it. My cousin bought the white dial, and I was offered the blue dial. I did not buy it because honestly I thought it was overpriced at $17K. Over $80k on a denim strap .. why? what!. Borrowing Allan Greenspans definition, buying this watch is irrational exuberance.

Denim on watches doesn't do it for me, but I can totally understand its appeal on a broader level.

Hahaha, honestly, I would be too surprised to see a limited edition diamond Timex Weekender in the future - we've seen weirder things (ahem, solid gold G-Shock)

I agree, the Nautilus bracelet is a major component of what gives the watch its charm - the Nautilus looks underdressed without it, IMO.

Watch prices in general are bonkers these days, or to put it more P.C. they're "ambitious."

A few months ago you might have been equally surprised to see a Patek with a denim strap!!

Agreed! The dial is beautiful but the denim strap isn't my favorite.

·

It's a cool watch. I like the dial and I don't even hate the strap. But I dislike that it's made from leather pretending to be denim. Why not use actual denim?

Admittedly I haven't seen it in person but to this day I have never seen a calfskin strap with an embossed "faux pattern" that I liked. That said, I don't think such watches should come with factory straps, there should be more options in that regard, to give it a personal touch. I may be wrong but I also have a feeling that certain major brands like PP and Rolex somehow want to keep control when it comes to the appearance of their watches even after a sale has been made so that's probably not going to happen any time soon.

·

With the caveat that I’m sure it looks a lot better in person - I really don’t like it. In photos, the chrono pushers look poorly integrated and awkwardly tacked onto the Nautilus case.

The dial looks great, though. And I’m interested in seeing how they got the denim effect on the strap (though I don’t really care for it). The amount of work and treatments needed to get calf leather to look that way must be incredible.

·

With the amount of money you need to buy one…I think it’s safe to call him “daddy” jeans

·

I don’t like the Nautilus, Aquanaut or APRO. I do like the message they are sending.

I think the message is to wear your Nautilus casually. Go down to the bank and pull your Nautilus out of the safety deposit box and wear it. Wear it with a t-shirt and jeans. Use it and enjoy it.

I’m sure Patek sees what’s been happening with certain models over the past few years. I’m equally sure that Patek wants people to wear and enjoy their products the way they are intended. They build timepieces, not mutual funds. I think this release is a reminder of that.

·

A Dad who wears those jeans is a pretty cool Dad 😎

·

Totally with it, looks awesome. Great to mix it up👌

·

It works. I want one.

Great review Celine. You’ve convinced me to save my money! Thank you

·

I have no idea why they thought white stitching was a good idea. Is that what, like, Kiton jeans use instead of the traditional coppery orange thread?

The signed buckle makes me think of Jules Verne.

hahaha, happy to help!

·

The dial is stunning - the strap is opposite of stunning - in my opinion

·

Oof! Jeans stopped looking okay on me when I turned 32. I cannot endorse the look on that watch!

·

I can say with 100% certainty that I wouldn't like anyone who buys a Patek Nautilus with a denim strap... unless it was a joke.

I concur 100%. Patek Philippe is trying too hard to attract younger customers. Please "stay classy" Patek and they will come!

I though the same (a joke) when Rolex released last year the celebration dials. But look at it now, they are popular.

·

I like the strap, but the Nautilus is naff. Not for me, thanks.

Nice review Celine. Basically I agree with your points. I think this denim strap looks good in pictures with the watch. However, I think my personal interest would wear thin quickly. Given the price of the basic watch, most of us who could afford it could get a well made custom strap if we wanted denim. So while I see the look, it wouldn’t be for me.

Exactly my thoughts; I think the denim look will get old, fast!
