Thought experiment / design

I’ve been interested in the Baltic MR01 for awhile now but something always kept me from pulling the trigger. After sitting with it for awhile I realized it was a few small design/spec details that stood out.

My background is in design so I wondered what it would look like if the case edge was a little less thick and the numbers were slightly smaller.

Thoughts?

Nope

You improved it enormously, in my opinion! Exciting! That looks seriously beautiful.

I’m an artist myself, and so from one to another I have to tip my cap in gratitude.

Nope in reference to what?

Thanks! Sometimes I get bored and like to bring ideas to life 🤣

I like the thinner bezel but prefer the bigger numerals.

·

I like the original design. Not a fan of the "all dial " look.

·

both look nice but the hands dont stand out and you have to really look to tell the time

·

The bezels on these watches are so poorly designed. They totally go against the entire vibe of the rest of the watch. I think it’s probably the most common gripe about the watch.

·

I definitely would like it more if the case edges weren’t as think

Probably that they don’t like it.

I concur - it looks boring and forgettable. The original is trying to play towards a more vintage look, take that away as you’ve got a plain watch with some Breguet numerals. This isn’t a criticism on your photoshop skills either, nor on your taste, but you have thrown it out there for debate and we all don’t have to agree.

·

Such a different vibe! I feel the hands and logo look out of place now, but it’s a cool experiment anyways.

·

I like the idea but in the end the numbers look like they a re floating a bit and the space in the dial makes me think this is a 40mm version of the watch. Like when I see a 40mm Aqua Terra. Somethings just not right

·

Baltic MR01 is not my cup of tea & i'll never buy one, but here goes:

I personally prefer the original version. The edited design somehow left a bit too much of "empty spaces" on the dial. The thinner edge somehow made it looked less solid/robust as well.

Anyway, that's just my personal preference 🍻

I like your thinner case edge but like the larger numbers, at least in my minds eye as I have no experience with design tools to manipulate the images to see what it would look like in a render.

Yeah that’s understandable, a lot of people have mentioned that thinner bezel but bigger numbers would resonate more.

·

Your suggestion is not a bad idea. Curious to see one or the other. Smaller case edge with the numerals unaltered & smaller numerals with unaltered case edge. I have the samon dial option and I love it! I don’t think you will regret getting one for yourself.

·

Yes, I always wondered why I liked and disliked the look before. And I think you've hit on it. The crowding of the dial.

So definitely in the right direction. I would personally prefer a slightly bigger numbers, but that's already been said.

Let's get this design to Baltic :-).

·

I like your redesign as compared to the original. It is dressier. The decrease in bezel size marries well with the font size reduction, at least for me. I’d purchase it 👍🏼

·

Yeah I’ll give you a 💯

·

I think the smaller numerals will make it look too much like a Patek 5026, which they are trying to avoid. Also, the choice of not using matching breguet hands.

·

I don’t mind dialbcentric watches, but the whole case has to compliment that. and even with these changes, The lugs don’t match, which doesn’t make it work for me.

I have grown to like watches with thick bezel like that.. At first, it wasn’t quite my taste because of the bezel, But after falling in love with Serica’s 4512, I love this watch, and I would never change a thing

·

The thick bezel is what makes this watch so attractive

·

Cheap Chinese movement in a fancy dress.

Run away!! 🤣

·

I quite like the brushing on the collected man version.

Very much considering getting a jeweller to either horizontally or radially brush the bezel on mine.

Weirdly the bezel attracts little prints and spots really easily. I love the watch but I’m forever wiping the bezel with my shirt.

I used to collect vintage watches, the Baltic with its thick bezel and numerals recalls one of the most appreciated little known brands that I collected before deciding vintage watches were too much of a hassle. I actually can thank you for reminding me what attracted me to the design of that old watch and images of the Baltic MR01 in the first place. I am an architect and appreciate your efforts but imho, the original is more balanced for the obvious vintage vibe the brand aspires to.

·

Your design is very clean, I really like it but my eyes are still drawn to the original.

·

Personally prefer the original, though its really interesting how a few proportion tweaks give a completely different vibe

My only gripe with the original is the second hand looking like it's from a different watch

·

I like the size of the numerals purely for legibility and the beauty of the raised indices. The smaller bezel would increase the dial presence, so for me just the larger numerals and thinner bezel.

·

The thinner bezel is nice, but I’m not a fan of the Breguet numerals. I recently discovered this long sold out version of the MR01 and it looks sooo much better in my eyes.

Great idea ! I’m with you.
