Which one?

I'm looking for a robust and durable everyday watch for around £500 pounds - and preferably swiss - and I have it down to 3 candidates:

  1. "The cliche choice"
Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical Review | Two Broke Watch Snobs

Hamilton Khaki field mechanical.

2. "Spec Monster"

Glycine Combat Sub 39 mm Automatic for £460 for sale from a Trusted Seller on Chrono24

Glycine Combat Sub

3. "Hype Choice"

Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 - T1374071104100 | Tissot

Tissot PRX Powermatic 80

Tissot is my vote!

·

Hard to say. 3 completely different styles of watches all capable of everyday wesr.

·

Hamilton for me!
I'm getting one, one of these days. There is just so much history there. And we know they can take a beating.
Props to Tissot though, they killed it with the PRX line.

·

I'd likely go for the Hamilton of those choices, with the Glycine as the runner-up.

·

For me an everyday piece has to have a date function, so the Tissot would win on that basis alone. However, if your day involves a tougher environment than the average office, that Hamilton would be preferable.

·

I'd probably pick the Tissot.

·

Out of these 3 I’d pick the Hamilton.

·

Of these three, I would pick the Tissot PRX. Just to throw a wrench in the works, have you considered a Certina DS? 😀 They are releasing some nice looking watches.

·

100% Glycine. I've found Hype not to be a reliable factor in considered decision making. This alongside the fact that I'd rather have rickets than the Hamilton.

·

Glycine.  For sure.

·

Have you considered a vintage Smiths?

·

The PRX is a very big watch. Be warned 🤗 It's  why I sold mine. But if you like big, go for it 👍👍

·

my choice would be glycine combat sub since not many people own it. and its look good too

·

Of those 3 I would choose the Glycine, but shop around a bit more, you might find an excellent Certina DS8 or a Mido Ocean Star 200 for a similar price.

·

I like divers and the ability to swap out straps whenever I want the watch to feel a little different so I'd personally go for the Sub. I like the PRX and although I love the look of the bracelet, being unable to swap it out easily ruins it a little for me

Now come in 35mm size which I tried on the other day, it wears more like a 38mm due to the case design 👍

Been looking at a 35mm gold myself. Supercool watch, just too big in 40

·

The PRX would be my choice. Tissot is a brand with a rich history, and simply looks good.

40mm watch too big, shame. I do think you should go and try one on before you rule the Tissot out, I almost walked out with the 35mm emerald green the other day but went with the silver with the rose gold hands in the end. More of a classic looking dial and hands, also comes in 35mm as well.

The Tissot actually has one of the most comfortable bracelets I've tried on and worn, the bracelet is worth the money alone, but with butterfly clasps, it will either fit perfectly or you will be that little loose or tight. I got lucky.

End of the day, you buy what makes you happy mate, just use everyones comments as a bit of a guide, the only expert here is you when it comes to choosing your next watch👍

I think you misunderstood me. I have owned a 40mm that I thought was to big, but 35 seems like a good size for that type of watch ☺️

·

Tissot  PRC200 T-Sport Watch is a great underrated everyday watch. A sturdly built watch with 200m WR. It is a quartz, but to be honest, you get a lot of watch for your money. Great looking case and a explorer style dial.

Chuck the Hamilton straight off the bat; it doesn't suit every scenario.

It's out of the Glycine and the Tissot and, of the two, the Glycine will look good in day to day stuff, sporty stuff, and work. The Tissot will look best at work, and struggle a bit more outside of it.

So, of the three, it's Glycine.

It's not what I'd do with the money, personally, but if those are your choices, it's that.

No problem mate, I see where your coming from now.

Try the 35mm if you get a chance, it’s exactly the same build quality as the 40mm. Cheers Tony

Hamilton - Nope (it's a Hamilton).

Glycine - Nope (It's an Invicta).

Tissot - Yep by default (but you can do better).

·

Hands down the Glycine! Looks superb! It could take a beating and still look proper..plus has date function/timing bezel/300m WR..👌

·

Of those, my choices would be:

  1. Hamilton
  2. Glycine
  3. Just looking at my iPhone instead for the time.
·

Knowing I’ll be wearing it mostly everyday, I’ll go with Hamilton. It’s a great all around watch that I wouldn’t mind taking a beating & the only place it would feel out of place is fine dining. The PRX just looks too elegant to wear every single day & the combat sub has more of a beach day vibe to it…

I have this same watch in a 40mm. It’s so elegant looking. I normally only bring it out when I’m dining out…

·

They all have basically the same movement so try them on and pick the one that grabs you. When it's 3 variations of the same watch taste is the deciding factor and that's all yours.

I agree. I like the Seiko 5 Field watches myself. Many sizes as well. I would not want an everyday watch with a bracelet band though.
