I was never a NATO fan, but resently I've changed my mind. But I do find the fit varies, I think this can be due the thickness and length of a watch. There are interesting videos on Youtube that show how you wear a NATO in dlfferent ways. An alternative is the Marine National Strap. It looks like a NATO, but the strap is constructed by simply taking a length of chord and folding it over itself. At the crease is a sewn in buckle (hook) and holding the two lose ends together is a metal ring that the buckle engages. It is a simple and effective design. I found the easiest was to use the strap, is to size it then fix the ring in the hook. The strap is elasticated, so it easily slips onto the wrist. Trying fix the ring to hook when the watch is on the wrist can be a bit of a faff.
I have in the past, bought vintage watches that have had problems with being magnetised. I too have purchased a cheap demagnetiser from Ebay, which has done the job. Sometimes it may take more than one go out it.
Waiting for the day when the piston-heads cry out that that EV's have no soul. That's because they have no true mechanical parts and you can't get your hands dirty with them. Oh! and that will be as they look at their wrist, realising that they hadn't wound their mechanical watch this morning? 🤣
Tissot PRC200 T-Sport Watch is a great underrated everyday watch. A sturdly built watch with 200m WR. It is a quartz, but to be honest, you get a lot of watch for your money. Great looking case and a explorer style dial.
I just buy a watch because I like it. Doesn't matter if it's quartz or mechanical. I do have a soft spot for solar watches, especially if they are radio controlled or have GPS. Let's face it you can't get anything more accurate than that. I am a Seiko SQ100 fan and have bought and refurbed a few. Have one for sale if anyone is interested?
To be honest I wouldn't mull over the question to much. I would probably just go to the collection just before leaving for the meeting, then just go for it.
If I wanted to take a talking point I've recently purchased a Independent (Citizen) KL8-619-54. This is a JDM, Solar, Atomic time keeper, Perpetual Calender. It's a really cool watch and I thing I picked the right colour combination. Needs to be seen in the flesh.
