Thoughts on the new Superocean?

I thin Breitling has released a new SuperOcean (on the left). I prefer the outgoing SuperOcean on the right. How everyone thinks?

I like the looks of the outgoing version myself, although I do really like the new adjustable clasp.

·

I think the outgoing model is much nicer, but I wouldn't pay retail for either.

·

I love the new version. Especially the one with the green dial.

I prefer the older version.  This is my favorite Superocean:

That’s a fun piece, I dig the colour dials. The price tho, nah!

First glance, I loved it…2-3 hours later, I officially decided that I was NOT a fan.

2 days later…I officially love it. Maybe slap in a movement with 70hr power reserve, tho?

·

I think they look promising. Appreciate that they introduced it with a variaty of sizes. Looking forward to see them IRL.

·

Ditching the date window is the only thing I like about the new model. The outgoing model is otherwise nicer and is more special.

·

I really like the new case shape but am not a fan of the lack of date, the handset, or the thicc chapter ring.

This one looks stunning!!!

I think it is quite a design change! They should have maintained some of the design features of the old one. I dont think we can compare due to the fact that it is a completly new watch. I like both, but I perfer the older version

·

Team Discontinued.

·

Would you really pay $5K for a Selitta movement in this watch?

·

If they did the one on the right, but with the logo on the left that doesn't look like an Invicta, I'd say that's the sweet spot :)

·

personally, I am all about this and will be purchasing the either the 42 or 44 black/white by end of this year.  I loved the prior design as well, but this nails it for me.  True three-hander sans date, layers of depth in the dial, on the go micro-adjustment (and I have a sentimental connection with the brand).  I honestly like the fact that it can be serviced anywhere.  I have a couple of Sellita-based work ups that are amazingly robust and accurate.  Could the price be a bit lower?  Sure. Am I going to ignore the better sense of logic and treat myself for a milestone birthday? Yes.  🍻

I like the new version only a little more, that missing 3 on the old one is what tips over my preference. I like the symmetry of the new one, and while I would've preferred that square to have been the seconds hand, it still adds some cool quirk to the watch. Not like I'd buy either one hahaha

What model Citizen is this? It’s really nice!

It's the Citizen Promaster Marine GMT. It was a Macy's exclusive when it was first released. Titanium case and bracelet.

·

Slight design nod to the old one, but I do like the no date and smaller sizing of the new one.

·

I’m with the people that prefer the outgoing style.  I just dislike the ‘bowl’ effect of the dial, and the ‘cube’ minute hand.

The new one is, well...bad.

For one, the movement. For that price tag they could use the Tudor/Kenissi movement that they have in the Superocean Heritage. But no, they went with a Sellita SW-200. The SW-200 is rugged, reliable and easily serviceable. However, for the Superocean money, it's just not nearly enough.

Then there's the minute hand. In the dark, you won't exactly be able to tell time accurately with it. Dive watches are a genre hailing from practicality, and this lacks it altogether.

The overall design is one massive misunderstanding. Looks like an unwanted child of the Rolex Submariner and the Dan Henry 1970.

It's not the uber-blingy kind of Breitling that Russian nouveau-riche lot would buy. It's just a different breed of fugly.

All in all, it doesn't even make me want to puke. It makes my puke want to puke.

the kenissi movement wont fit in the cases

I've got the old one - love it. But will be buying the new one too - Im pretty sure the 44 in bronze.

A few things people wont get from the images here:

The old case is really quite plain, like tudor plain.  Its fine but the dial is doing all the design work.

The old watch is lovely (like I said I own and love it) but up close you see the numerals are stamped not truly applied.

The new watch is quite thin, the kenissi movement used in the heritage model wont fit, it also cant go in a 36 mm case.

Watch design is all about compromise, with the blackbay pro the compromise was you got a fat watch but an inhouse movement, here you get a third party movement but a svelte watch. Choose your poison I guess.

Personally I don't think I'd ever notice extra power reserve but a watch fatter than it needs to be bugs me every time I wear it so this works for me.

·

I've got the outgoing model. Love it. The new one does nothing for me personally.

I was able to try them on this past Saturday at the Boutique in San Antonio.  The 42mm wears very small in my opinion and had they had the black/white on bracelet in the 44 I'd be wearing it now.  I'm on the "list" so we'll see when that combo arrives there and see if I'm still as hyped to pick it up.  Great piece and the micro adjustment on both the bracelet and rubber is a nice addition.  The other colors are great but I prefer the more traditional.  Just my .02

·

There's something that looks off with the new models; I can't pinpoint it. But I've only seen them in pictures so I should reserve my judgment until I see them in the metal.

Interesting information about the Bezel.

I know I’m late here but I’m ALL ABOUT this comment today. 100% agree on everything you’ve said. On wrist these are beautiful. Yes a bit over priced, but the people who buy them won’t be caring about “in-house” hype and will be wearing them with delicious aesthetic pride.

Hi I have the older model it’s a fab watch, I particularly like the numbers at 12,6 and 9.

The new model looks a bit clumsy imo however you can grow to love things……🤔
