What is the best German watch?

Celebrating an upcoming birthday…..thinking about what to get with my liquidated assets….

Which German watch is really good for around $1,000?

I have heard good things about Circula and Long Island Watch carries them. I like that Marc offers coupons. Laco may be another brand to consider too.

·

For around $1k, it's likely a neovintage Sinn from the 90's

·

Stowa has some nice watches, but would need to find on the gray market to get it under $1000.

·

Gonna be tough at that budget unless you go used, but might be able to find decent Nomos Clubs just over that, maybe some Muhle Glashutte.

·

Check out junghans or laco. I think they both offer watches just over $1k

·

Sinn

Sinn

·

Damasko, Laco, Circula, Sinn all great German brands. Check out WatchMann and search German watches, you'll get a ton!!

·

German watches tend to be priced higher than 1KUS$, therefore the picking is slim unless you are willing to get a second hand watch.

used sinn 556

·

The only German brand I have any experience with is Junghans. Solid watches that can be found under $1000.

·

Another thumbs up for Junghans for me! Though I’m a bit of a sucker for the bauhaus look

·

I think the Damasko DS30 is a great watch. Great build quality, and after 2 years it’s still running +3s/d.

·

Sinn makes really nice pieces a little bigger than the $1k, but check out Damasko. They make some nice pieces too.

·

Get a vintage GUB Which is Glashutte.

·

I have several German watches and my favorites are STOWA and NOMOS Glashütte. I would recommend you check both of them out. Happy new watch hunting!

·

For $1000.00 I suggest you search the grey market for your watch.

Check out Aristo. Great quality at very decent prices. Also, totally underrated. 😁

·

If you can find a NOMOS for that price, or are willing to spend a little more, then I'd say that NOMOS offers the best bang for your buck in watches. And not just german watches.

·

check pioneer one of hanhart, you may also find a discounted 556 from sinn.

·

Sternglass, they are less than 1k usd and looks good.

·

I'm really happy with my archimede

There are tons of German watch brands, and @Uhrologe wrote the definitive guide, as far as I am concerned.

Note: There are three parts to this guide.

·

One and the only German watch I own is a Laco Venedig 42 with a luminous dial. I was stuck between Laco and stowa for a fleiger pilot (originally being enticed by Stowa in bronze). But when I saw a fully lumed dial of Laco, that was the deciding factor.

I went for the upgraded movement, sterile dial and one-sided AR coating. So specced, the watch should have been just south of 1500 USD but at the time USD and Euro were 1:1 and I found a shop in Finland that ordered it for me from Laco (I think because European prices were lower than the US ones on the Laco website). All in all, the watch ended up costing me under 900 USD (AMAZING, I KNOW).

The watch has been unbelievable. I think it is one of the most accurate watches I own. Honestly cant have enough of it - over 2 years and still honeymooning. I seriously doubt that the top-spec Sellitta movement is to credit for this performance because I have several watches with ETA 2892 movements from much more expensive brands and they all have their performance ranges. I think this is down to German engineering or over-engineering I should say. I know Laco has a lot of circa 500 USD watches with Miyota movements and for this reason many collectors don't look at their more premium offerings, instead opting to look at Stowa, Damascus, Sinn, etc. But I do wholeheartedly recommend checking them out. You will thank me when you experience what I have ;)

Sinn and Nomos are the best for around that price range (if you allow preowned/vintage) but they are more like $2-3k.

I think Junghans, Sternglad, and Laco are some of the best options for $1000 and less.

·

If you’re smart it’s Nomos if your casual it’s a Sinn

·

Stowa, Archimede, or used Sinn (ex 556).

·

Junghans will be one of my next purchases. For around $1000, it’s steeped in history and so quintessentially German.
