What’s the roughest thing you do while wearing your mechanical watch?

I wanna hear some extremes of how you abuse your watches, like that welders Rolex GMT restoration video. If you don‘t beat up any of your watches, what kind of activities do you draw the line at And take it off?

I don’t have a “beater” mechanical yet, though I wouldn’t mind picking up a thrashed SKX or something for daily wear at work.

The gym is the only place I take off my mechanical watch. I figure they are made for pretty much everything else.

·

I don't own any. The kind of "beating" I do would overcharge the movement and break it.

·

I helped a buddy move wearing my Orient Kamasu. Few scuffs on the bracelet, but otherwise, it’s the Apple Watch if I am doing anything more than light/medium activity.  I’m all for “wearing my watches” but I’m also all for “taking care of my things“. My dad always taught me to take care of my things.

·

Running a jackhammer to break out a concrete driveway destroys them. Or using an airhammer on rusty bolts. Now i'm retired i can wear watches again.

·

Running long distances I guess..

·

Most summer days I run wheel-line movers (vibration), work with the horses, ride ATVs/UTVs, use outdoor power equipment, power tools (impact guns, etc), do mechanical maintenance on the large equipment, repair water lines, etc.

All this with the disclaimer, I have ruined at least 4 mechanical movements over the last 15 or so years. I usually try to wear a quartz watch on really rough days.

·

I wash dishes and load the laundry.

·

I used to workout in any mechanical watch I had on.  Fish, hunt , camp, hike, obviously dive..five... Now I GSHOCK it

Roofing

·

I normally don't wear my watches in the shower - more because of the watchband than the watch.

Shout at people and point fingers.

·

I build and repair machines so scratches can occur.

·

I have a very cheap old quartz titanium piece by MC (a common German dept. store brand) for fixing my car or other rough work. Oddly, it still looks and works fine.

·

Multi-day desert racing in an open buggy. Vibration, shock, temperature, sandblasting......great if you have highly polished case parts, but you want a brushed finish.....

Deadlifts ☠️ Like with chopping wood and such, I would recommend a quartz. Have messed up the regulations of a watch one time doing "slamming" activities...

Beaters tend to be best as QUARTZ 💪

Wow , you broke a sledgehammer you loved🤠 that's to bad. What watch were you wearing at the time? 😉

Full disclosure: It wasn't a mechanical. But it was the first watch I bought for myself that I considered a keeper; my Invicta chronograph (top row, 2nd from right).

The repair cost just wasn't worth it to me so I retired the watch. Maybe I'll replace it one day.

Can we have a picture of it please❓ I enjoy used beater type watch's.

Coming. I wanted to start a thread about mall/dept. store watches anyway soon.

No big deal but I wore my diver in the rain yesterday.

So brave. Such hardship.

Working with highly electromagnetic devices 😬

·

I work as a package car driver for UPS and most days I bring my SRPG37 along for the ride. It has a couple of scratches but takes the abuse well over all but I would say that the roughest thing that I did with it was probably at the range with my .357 revolver. I usually don't but I just forgot to take it off that time.

That is a shot that that watch was made for, nice!

I always think to myself, those white birches in the woods must be jealous.

·

I wear my BB58 on a bracelet doing just about anything I normally do, working, traveling, working on the house, fixing a car, going sailing, swimming, working on my sailboat, maintenance, etc.. I dont really take it off for much.

The wrest of my collection, I do try and keep them nice.

I also got a galaxy s3 frontier when I got a note 9, I wore it daily for many years and it took all the abuse I could throw at it. It still holds a charge all these years later and works really well with my iPhone, but I just prefer wearing my orgwr watches at this point. got tired of my wrist vibrating

Smart.  I wish your story would get more attention.  Too many think their mechanical watches are invincible, they damage them subtly, then pass them on to an unsuspecting buyer.  Quartz for jobs that entail shock and vibration is the way to go!

I took some phone pics today for you. May not come up in the photos really, just the normal swirls and scratches that happens with 4 years of near daily use.
