Love these! Wish they had the bubble date like the other Alpinists, though. But I'm probably in the minority on that one!

I like my watches to do work, the more work, the better. Big fan of GMT's and I'm certain to get the black dial version of this Seiko GMT when available.

I see all sorts of responses here, but I must admit the watches I've bought from an AD seem a bit more special to me than those I've received in the post. A good AD experience sets the tone for ownership later, imho. Not a huge deal, surely, but something to think about.

I generally experience as many watches as I can, and it's the ones that keep popping back in my mind that truly appeal to me. If, after several months or even a year or two, I keep thinking about a particular model, I know that one's worth the investment. All the best.

Steinhart. A bit more expensive, but worth it imho.

I own that GS and it is a perfect little jewel of a watch.  It’s timekeeping is extraordinary, as is the fit and finish.  That Longines is a great watch, too.  Key is the difference between auto and quartz.  What do you prefer?  I use my GS as a travel watch for when I want a change.  I keep it in my bag and pull it out and it’s perfect.  It’s a perfect grab and go, imho.

For some unknown reason to me, I perceive that watches become our companions as we journey through life, and they retain something of our experience.  They become symbols of where we’ve been, and what we’ve done, and who we are.  So, they need not be expensive, or “luxury,” but they need to be robust and worthy of repair.  I remember being notified of my first military deployment for combat, and among all my mixed emotions was the strong desire to purchase a quality watch that would accompany me.
