NWA: Vintage Patek Philippe Ellipse

My first Patek Philippe, first “Holy Trinity”, first precious metal, and first vintage watch. Introducing the Patek Philippe Ellipse. Picked it up from a vintage dealer in NYC. I always thought my first and last Patek would be a Calatrava but after seeing the Ellipse with an integrated bracelet in person and on my wrist, I had to have it. The blue dial is unlike any I’ve seen in person.

I’ve always been drawn to vintage because of design and size but it can really daunting to shop for. The best tip I ever heard was always buy the seller, not the watch. This dealer knew his stuff, took me to a independent watchmaker (few doors down) to open the caseback so I could inspect the movement and put it on a timegrapher (running at -2 spd!). He didn’t even flinch when I asked if it would be rejected by Patek if I applied for achieve papers. Overall, buying vintage can be stressful but extremely rewarding. Just look up the prices of a vintage Ellipse, very undervalued in my opinion.

If you’re planning on watchshopping in NYC, I’d be happy to share the shop with my fellow crunchers.

Did you need the bracelet resized? I've got one but it doesn't fit and not sure how they go about resizing it

Congratulations 🎉 amazing timepiece Sir, Holy Grail #patekphilippe

Beautiful. Might be hard for others to understand the choice to go for this while the mainstream is going for the modern models such as the Nautilus. But I'm with you in this one here. I'm sure you'll enjoy this one.

Great question! The bracelet is a little loose. In order to have it sized the gold has to be cut and welded. Still debating if I want to have it cut since it’s final.
