Do you have a watch that wears big that you still enjoy anyway?

Hi All,

This is my Laco Ausburg 42 Polar “Napa” edition.

At 42mm it’s really not that big but the fact that there’s no dive bezel and a large crystal diameter makes this thing look huge in addition to the crystal diameter and spacing.

However, knowing the history of fliegers being even bigger (44mm or more) and the fact that there’s a memory of me frantically looking for the watch shop that had this with my daughter and sweating by the time I realized it was on the top floor of downtown Chicago, I will probably cherish this watch forever even when I do “upgrade” to an IWC one day 🥲.

85% of my watches are big boys between 43 and 48mm

By the way, your Laco is a pilot's watch which in the Second World War was manufactured by Laco, Stowa, IWC and many more for the Luftwaffe in 50mm or more since they had to have a lot of visibility to be a tool in that environment.

I have tons. Having a small wrist I look more for comfort vs size. Obviously now that watches are releasing smaller versions I have more options but I don't shy away from a 44mm with a short L2L. Also many peeps are bias to be honest. They wear these gigantic G-Shocks 45mm minimum yet they trip that a watch is not under 40mm.

I have a Seiko Arnie that is large (I believe it’s 47 mm) but I love it, it wears much smaller and is really comfortable

I actually prefer smaller watches but.....

I really like Laco's low-contrast California dials. Congrats!

I'm right there with you with my Hamilton Pilot Day Date!

Certain watches just need to be bigger to look right. I try to keep an open mind about sizing even though I have a very small wrist at 6.25”. My watches range from 35-42.5mm and I rock them all proudly.

How much time do you have...

Sold all my bigger watches couldnt enjoy them

Cool story! For me that watch is the omega SMP 😅 I have a 6.6inch wrist so it doesn’t wear that big, but when I switch to the Tudor bb58 I feel like it’s just such a better wearing experience and find myself wishing the SMP were the same dimensions 😩

Sure! Big watches for good reasons. While my collection is trending down in diameter, thes big tough watches will always have a place and purpose in my life and work.

This created the solar eclipse this week. I was putting on my wrist- ha!

56mm diameter. I think there is a wrist back there somewhere. Ha!

My Casio Edifice is 43mm and too big for me, but it is a thinner case - quartz - and I love it so much I don't care. It wears smaller than the Duro, which is too much on my wrist.

My 43mm Black Bay Bronze is a bit of a chunker but I still like it.

I enjoy the Laco aesthetic. I have a Valencia and I am planning on getting a Cuxhaven in white. Your watch looks great on you! 🍪🥛

I usually wear 34-38mm watches but one of my favorites is my G-Shock. I also really enjoy my Edifice.

So glad you posted this. Was thinking what strap to swap mine with at some point! Looks good

·

Yes. My Stowa Marine 40. All dial and white makes it wear larger. And I couldn’t care less. Its also my least worn watch since I mostly dress casual, but if I sold it I know I’d instantly regret it.

Its a bit big but I LOVE IT
