How do you store your watch collection?

As someone just starting in the hobby, I am quite surprised by how quickly my watches are piling up. I bought a box with 8 slots and as you can see, it's already not enough.

It got me pondering about ways to store your watches. Veterans in the hobby mostly use the biggest 12 slots box / container / suitcase (?) because they know they will be filling those up. I bought this box thinking I won't have nearly as many watches. Foolish me.

How do you keep your watches? Do you display them in the open? Keep them in boxes? Do you buy the biggest storage you can find? Do you prefer watch rolls?

I'm researching on how to store my babies best and I just want to know how most people do it for fun 😎 Share pics of your watch storage please!

I have my good autos box, my good quartz box and a box of slightly lesser watches and I believe the term is a ‘shitters’ box. 😂 40 slots total, not all filled, but close.
My quartz box has a glass lid because some of them are solar, so that box sits out. The other boxes are stored in drawers and on a shelf in my vinyl storage unit.

commenting because I'm also looking for good watch box recs that arent bosphorus or wolf

·

My girlfriend has bought me a rather affordable watch winder with 4 slots, but the other watches are just randomly put in that storage compartment of the winder. I am also looking for (affordable) recommendations so thanks for starting this post 😂

I personally have a storage box with 12 slots which will soon be full. I will soon have to order a new one. 'Cause I don't think I can stop in such a good way 😁

In hindsight, I should've known I won't be able to stop and so I should've bought the 12 slots one 😂

Now I'm torn between sticking with this 8 slot box and forcing myself to let go some of my babies, or surrendering to fate and buying more storage and accepting that my collection will just keep growing

·

My current box is pretty affordable but now I'm thinking of getting a storage with zipper or any other more secure lid.

tip: check out your local leather workers / jewellery box sellers. I got mine from a local seller who also sells other leather goods like jewellery box, makeup box, etc

·

I got a 12 watch, watch box. Before it was ample, however recently I split it with my girlfriend so we each have our top 6 watches in it. Now I just have a bunch of watches on my bed side table waiting for me to come up with a solution haha

·

I’m pretty easy going I use these to keep them fresh…

And toss Them in freezer…

Im so jealous of the explorient

·

So 2 8-slot winders, 3 12-slot boxes and a watch tree that holds 5. All with glass lids, on top of the dressers in my bedroom. Yes, I have a problem . . .

·

The bigger the boxes the more compelled you are to fill them, which can be a pitfall. At one stage I had over 5, 12 slot watch boxes full with others sitting in a draw. Complete madness really. So after 20 or so years I now have 1 watch box with only 11 watches in there, and I’m trying to get down to only 6 watches. You can get carried away and just get addicted to buying the latest and greatest watches or go down the vintage watch rabbit hole as I did, but at the end of the day you can only wear one watch at a time. But hey you do you and everyone is in this hobby for different reasons. I just want watches that mean something to me and not just fill an empty spot in my watch box 🙏🏻

I got lucky. Someone was willing to let it go for cheaper than the market price. The black dials are plenty on the market tho, it's not exactly rare, just gotta be patient in finding one with a good price.

Or buy from Japan! 👍

Dam you've got great watches in your collection my friend and such a vast variety as well.

I too was like you many years ago, but my OCD and as I like everything orderly I was constantly rearranging watches everywhere so they were neat and tidy. Then I would start to divide them into categories, brand name and then year of production, then I started to make tags for each watch with the details printed on the tag and so on, I became obsessive with organising everything including straps. I had to stop or run the risk of driving myself insane along with my family  🤪

i have a 12 slot watch box which is already occupied now😅 but I enjoy having this really nice leather watch roll I use while traveling.

The way you described the plastic bags made me imagine you store these in filing cabinets in folders... like

But nope, shoeboxes not filing cabinets 🤣

I'm old school :-)

I use Wolf Windsor watch boxes, along with a watch display case from Holme & Hadfield.

The Wolf watch boxes provide nice padded spaces for the watches, and allow enough spacing to ensure that even large watches don't end up rubbing together. The glass tops make selecting a watch easy.

The display case from Holme & Hadfield is ideal as a display, but doesn't offer the same padding as the Wolf watch boxes.

I use the Wolf stackable 12 slot boxes without lids.  They stack an go neatly on a shelf or in the safe.

Holme & Hadfield make these leather mats for their display cases. I got one for my knife deck in case I put some watches there.

Thanks for the info - that mat looks great, but there is still the issue with the wooden discs. I still feel it's a terrific display option, but not quite as awesome just for "storage".

I must say that they offer a pretty cool solution for knife storage/display - that looks great.

Yeah they’ve actually got a larger one coming in August/September that I’m thinking about getting than using this for my ever expanding watch collection.

Keep my watches safe in here!

·

I have some in a watch box & some in a winder…

·

I started putting mine in single watch cases and that's a mistake.  I can't keep up with them.  I can't find one of mine and it's driving me crazy.  I definitely recommend investing in some good boxes.
