Watching the Watches in Films

Do you do this too?

Looking forward to “Oppenheimer”… A Christopher Nolan movie is bound to include time and watches.

·

Yep. What's even more ironic, of late some of the action style movies/franchises showcase dressier variants. John Wick and the Gray Man aren't blasting tool watches from what I can tell? Could be wrong though.

·

I do. I was all in after that Jaws post. Also, it gave me an excuse to watch Jaws 1 and 2. Not interested in watching Pulp Fiction though

·

Watched The Frozen Ground the other day … a true story about catching a seriously killer in Alaska in the 1980s - good flick starting Nicolas Cage.

He wore an interesting looking gold vintage watch throughout that the film seemed to swell on in a couple of early scenes.

Anyone know what it was?

Not a great photo I know - the film clip is here - https://youtu.be/F6E2ojebPlA

Yeesss!! Glad to know I am not alone in doing this! It drives my wife crazy when I pause a movie to work out what watch I just glimpsed. 🤣

p.s. the best watch sighting in a movie is the S Shock I spotted in Project Power.

Will be interesting to see what Hamilton does for it.

Once i became a watch enthusiast i've been doing this in movies, tv shows, and in public. Secretly eyeballing someone's watch and trying to discern the brand and model. I need a lot more watch familiarization though because i can only tell watch cases from really common brands: rolex, omega seamasters, panerai, richard mille, seiko, royal oak, nautilus. It is because these brands have noticeable case profiles and i can recognize them from far enough away even without seeing their logo. It has become quite an enjoyable pastime. 😊

·

I look out for them but these days someone has usually already done the work, so I just google what an actor/actress is wearing.

·

Oh yeah I do

·

Always

·

Yes all the time now....and it really annoys the Mrs!

·

Didn't use to. Now I do. 😜 Just the other day, I was re-watching "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty", and I couldn't help take these screenshots hehe...

What is Walter Mitty wearing here? Twas his GADA the whole movie.

And what is his mother wearing? Looks quite vintage.

I was just thinking about this last night, with Ocean's Thirteen playing in the background. I do look at watches in movies and series now - but am NEVER able to identify the make or brand 😂

I can can sort of guess this one:

But other than that...score zero so far :)

·

Could not be bothered as someone here will edumicate me here 😂

·

First time I was watching Billions on HBO I was not into watches at all. Now, as we watch it second time I pay close attention and google it 🙂 they have shown a lot (Cartier Roadster, APs, TAG Heuer Aquaracer, Hamiltons and many more).

·

All the time. And I tell the missus if I recognise it. Her response is, “that’s good dear“. And when I don’t recognise it, her response is,“that’s good dear“. And when they don’t wear a watch, her response is,“that’s good dear”.😕

Sadly, I still do it everytime.

·

Always. And slowly I build my collection based on watches from movies. From Seiko Ripley, Arnie, Willard, SKX009 used by Robert Redford on All Is Lost, and Hamilton Interstellar “Cooper”.

I used to and secretly do this on my own (Ooo Errr) but after many a "stop pausing the bloody film" I have had to do this both secretively and while my partner is making a cuppa. If I was in the cinema with a magic remote I wouldn't be writing this as would be lynched by now.

·

All the time!

That Resident Evil movie that came out a few years ago (not the ones by WS Anderson but I like those too) has a plethora of g shocks to spot.

·

I watch the show called, The First 48, which documents actual detectives solving homicides. I'll try to see what the detectives are wearing. Lots of Apple watches and G-Shocks, with some fashion watches, best I can tell. Views are fleeting. Sometimes they blur out the watch dial!

What is Jason Bourne wearing here?

I think I may have seen a couple of Nic Cage movies with him wearing a Tag Heuer Monaco. I'll have to try and remember which ones. Probably his own at a guess.

It's a Tag Heuer Link Chronograph. I only know that because I Googled it. 😀

Yeah, one quick look at the bracelet was enough for me. My wife has a gorgeous baby blue dial Tag Link.

Hehe... thanks bud! It was also my initial guess given its iconic look, but wasn't sure.

Perhaps they don't have a watch sponsor requiring product placement hehe 😜

How about Walter Mitty? He has a nice reverse panda chronograph on with seemingly short lugs. Here's what I've found so far...

And how about the vintage looking watch his mom is wearing?

·

I do this all the time! Mrs thinks I'm deranged! Even found a website to try and look the watch up based on actor and film or TV programme.

Doesn't give you everything, but it's a start. Link for those interested:

The watches I notice in the movies are either too small or appear too briefly for me to identify what they are and to enjoy their appearance.

·

Watching a video of Edgar Winter jamming and spending most of it trying to see his Pulsar P2.
