How many do you think I'll break? How many do you think you'll break?

What are your New Year's Watch Resolutions?

My resolutions:

  1. Part exchange my Omega SMP (Bond quartz) for either a new (used) SMP or Speedy.

  2. Do not buy anymore G-Shocks, 3 is enough.

  3. Do not buy any other watches!

That is about it, oh wait there are sales on!!!

That is it.

How many do I think you'll break? All of them. You'll break all of them. But it's ok because I'll probably have broken all of them too and then I'll realize it's only July and we have many more months to go in the year.

·

I've set a goal of zero new watches in 2024.

I'm going to enjoy the ones I have.

·

My watch resolution is give away or sell some of my lower end and/or less worn pieces that I have accumulated on my watch journey. Feel good about my core collection and less is more. Plus want to focus on reducing, refining, and upgrading my wardrobe in the new year.

·

Figure out how to conveniently remove and reinstall the bracelet on this Seiko 5. Maybe get said watch regulated so I don't have to adjust it twice a week. Of course no new watches, by which I include new to me. Find some excuse to submerge a watch to experience the thrill of the dunkers. Try to watch that BBC Rolex Robbers or whatever it was called. Sell that Nixoid Classic watch.

Moving on from the parts of the hobby that don't bring you joy makes sense. Perfection is the enemy of progress so not meeting all of your goals isn't synonymous with failing. Keep the parts that make you happy, toss the rest. Finding the sweet spot can be hard.

The Dalai Lama said...

When you are discontent, you always want more, more, more. Your desire can never be satisfied. But when you practice contentment, you can say to yourself, 'Oh yes - I already have everything that I really need.'

Of course it stands out that Mr Lama is not a watch guy. I have about 40 watches on my wish list and grows by the week.

I will try (fingers crossed) to set a budget, enjoy what I have, give away or sell those that I don't and enjoy the hobby more, it should be fun @FlatteryCamp is right.

I nearly bought this yesterday, but stopped myself !

I could co-sign your pledge and add Etsy in the list of apps to avoid. Especially because my brain tried to block it off selectively:

There's a resolution I can get behind.

·

I’ve already “given away” too many watches. Too soon?

It would be progress if I raised the bar so that I bought only watches that are worthy of the current ones getting decreased wrist time. Less "that's cool", good value or good spec watches if they don't bring that wide eyed wow factor that one feels only every so often. I'm also not interested in "growing to love" a watch which is like being in an arranged marriage with your fingers crossed.

Buy JLC Atmos

How's #8 going?! 😅

·

My New Year's Resolution is always to not make any resolutions. Thereby, I both break and achieve that one at the same time. I love the silliness of that.

But seriously, I plan to do less impulse buying and more thoughtful purchases. I have good variety in my collection right now so will be enjoying what I've got and maybe saving up for something special in 2024. We'll see.... Cheers! 🍻

·

I think you’ll break all of em, especially no 10 😉

I’m just gonna carry on watching! If you know what I mean……,

·

Expand my g shock collection. 👍

·

Only got one

Don’t sell anything to fund new watches. Ive sold too many I regret later on

·

1. Wear more watches more often

2. Buy more straps

3. Practice my photography

4. Organise my collection

Probably some more but these are from the top of my head. Fingers crossed for all of us!

·

I'm gonna break all my "promises" no doubt. But the one I really want to keep is: stick to the plan. End the random purchases. And sell the bulk.

No more impulse buys on AliExpress and never again buy any watches from Temu.

I know for sure it’s hard but not impossible. It’s gonna take TIME and DISCIPLINE 😬my friend. Same goes for all of us. And the same time we all have fun with this hobby.🙂

·

1.Earn more 2. Buy more watches
