What should I rate a seller?

I recently bought another vintage Timex watch from eBay. The seller took forever to ship but did inform me of the delay. When the item shipped, it was basically shipped in a thinly plastic envelope with no other protection. When asked why he did this to a 49 year old watch, the seller responds to me with "It's a Timex, it should take a licking ... ". Personally, I'm appalled and shocked at the disrespect to the watch. The fact that I had to pay a premium for shipping but it was just shipped in a plastic bag feels disrespectful to me. In addition, the item was described as "mint" but it was obviously not. The description smelled of AI to me. So, how should I rate this seller?

Is the watch in the condition as described?

Is the watch in the condition as described?

No. His description was off. He claimed it was "mint" but honestly I wasn't expecting it to be mint since it's a watch from 1975. Guessing he used AI to generate his item description.

Don’t even rate him and move on is how I feel. Some people suck, and some people don’t respect or understand Jelwery/ timepieces (I deal with this on a daily basis). If the watch is in the condition as described I wouldn’t absorb any negative energy that comes with a poor rating

Is the watch working? Does it look like it was damaged during shipment when you compare it to the photos in the listing?

If the watch arrived in the condition described, I don’t see a problem that would warrant a lower rating.

If you wanted it packaged a certain way, you should have reached out to the seller with those instructions.

Be detailed in your review. The words "not as described" and "paid extra for premium shipping" and did not get it warn other people.

It isn't hard to wrap and item in some bubble wrap or maybe a small box

If you're charged a premium for shipping, the buyer should expect more than an envelope to ship the item. If a seller wants to skimp on packaging, they should have sold the item with free shipping. Perhaps I expect too much from people these days.

Agreed. When I sell a watch, I make sure they're packed properly no matter if they're cheap or expensive. It really isn't that difficult.

I sold one of my camera lenses and it probably could have survived a tornado with the amount of padding I put in the box then wrapped it in infinite tape

I would rate him pretty low. Only by leaving a fair and reasoned review will anyone else be able to avoid your experience in the future. On the flip side, if your experience was a fluke on his part and he sells a lot of stuff, then a single low rating won't hurt him. So there is no downside to speaking your mind.

One star for positive communication, one star for successful delivery. Basic rating for basic service.

·

The seller was a w⚓️so warn future buyers 👍

·

What or how much was this premium shipping, especially compared tot he price of the item?

·

Be honest. Rate the shipping costs, the condition of the watch vs. the description, and the interaction with the seller, and average them for your overall rating. Sounds like about 2.5-3 out of five to me. 😉

$18. I was expecting at the very least a small USPS box at that price.

File a complaint. Get your money back. Include your experience in rating.

If the product does not arrive as described, auto 1 star for me. Always!

·

Personlly, I'd rate it. Maybe 3 or 4 stars based on what you say. I'd also leave an honest review for future buyers to be warned. If things go left unsaid, it just leaves room for them to do it future buyers. You're just warning future buyers. I've passed on good deals on eBay because the seller had amazing feedback but some of the reviews were a bit iffy.

I once received 6 glasses in their original display box, wrapped in a bin liner. Needless to say four were broken. The only surprise was that two survived.

I would use eBay protection to get your money back

Maybe ,essays the seller and ask for any explanation, reasoning or refund of the amount even though in the grand scheme a trivial amount. If they can’t provide some valid reasons or explanations the. Yes, let them know you’ll be giving them a less than stellar rating so others can be aware too.

I thinking joking and context on both sides just like in business or email/text communication is difficult bc there is no context. Be respectful but direct and concise. Give them an opportunity to explain, if not, maybe a two star demerit.

We say buy the seller.

If you aren't honest in your feedback how are future buyers informed?

A big fat ⛔️

Perhaps a share of the venue used and sellers name to help us all avoid dealing with them?

The venue is eBay. I will not post their name here to avoid any issues if they were a member here. I did post my feedback on eBay so that other buyers can see what they did.

·

The second the watch is sold then it’s no longer his property. It’s yours… If the item isn’t as described you can take it up with eBay’s buyer protection program. But some people are stupid like that. Sorry it happened to you.

Fair enough. For them though…

Rate? Bro report this seller, leave a 3 pages review explaining what you have gone through to ensure people know how serious this is then only rate them 0.5 star 😂

·

I know it sucks.. but it is eBay, which is one step up from a car boot sale, as far as I am concerned. Every time I buy a vintage watch, I know I'm gambling. I wouldn't rate him at all and move on, unless you feel you have been conned.

There has only been two occasions in about 12 years I've asked for a refund.

On the other hand, my latest purchase was so well wrapped, it took me about 10 minutes to get all the wrapping off. Sometimes you win sometimes you lose.

It really isn’t! I’ve bought equally robust watches off eBay and those were at least sealed with tape, pool noodle/padding to prevent shipping, and wrapped for good measure on free shipping. There’s no way OP’s seller can’t reciprocate
