What would Jesus Wear?

I don't know why this thought occurred to me today at mass, but I figured Jesus would probably wear a solar G-Shock.

What do you think Jesus would wear?

Whatever the least among us would wear.

Is that Jared Leto?

Not an Omega? He is the Alpha and the Omega afterall.

·

Agreed, that is Jared Leto.

Something with a 72 hour power reserve would be helpful.

·

He needs that water resistance to multiply those fishes! Oh and the loaves of bread too.

·

In public a $10 Casio, but at private clergy meetings, some PP or AL&S from his private collection.

·

No need for water resistance, really…

Somewhere in heaven, Leonardo Da Vinci and Hans Wilsdorf got together and made this.

Its a collab.

No, he would sell any luxury he had and spent the money to aid the poor. Do you guys actually READ that bible you beat people with or is it just a big comic book for you? This is as bad as the "what gun would Jesus own?" or "What SUV would he drive" threads I've seen.

·

I think he'd probably not wear one. He would sleep when he needed and awake when he naturally would. He did a lot of wondering and teaching. I don't think he lived in a way where he HAD to be somewhere at a certain time and thus had to know what time it was.

I'm older so I can remember a time when most people had respect for certain things and would not use Jesus as a prop for humor and click bait. I find you post offensive and juvenile. I challenge you to do a post with the Prophet Mohammed as your "prop". See how that goes.

I say this as a minister with an M.Div (seminary degree): lighten up. There was nothing disrespectful about the post. God doesn’t need us to be outraged on Her behalf. She can take some good-natured humor, and so can Jesus.

Lighten up? A seminary degrees does not give you any more credibility to give me advice than half the Priests I have known in my life.

Ok so you polled your priest friends about this post and they concurred with your view that this post was somehow a desolating sacrilege? Ok. You are entitled to your opinion and to your outrage. My mentioning my vocation and education was not an attempt to pull religious rank on your or suggest that I am higher on the ontological ladder of holiness than you. It was simply to say that as a person who has spent decades in the service of the Lord and the Church there are legitimate offenses against God and one of them isn’t a lighthearted “what wristwatch would Jesus wear” post. Save the outrage for the mistreatment of refugees, preventable gun violence, and the destruction of the planet we are supposed to be stewarding.

I mean this could have gone off the rails fast and I would have deleted it if so.

I think it went pretty well? A lot of wholesome jokes.

I do. I can see why some might be offended. To be fair, it was mainly puns. It was about the ridiculousness of thinking Jesus would ever truly need a watch. But I get the sort of stream of consciousness that goes on during Mass. For those who aren't Catholic, they don't realize how the mind can wander during the more rote parts of the ritual. Mine did too. It always came back to pay attention to the homily.

No, I don't believe in him or anybody else's god either. I'm equal opportunity that way. 🙂

“The Universe is an unsettlingly big place, a fact which for the sake of a quiet life most people tend to ignore. Many would happily move to somewhere rather smaller of their own devising, and this is what most beings in fact do.”

-----Douglas Adams------

I do love some Douglas Adams. That man was truly a philosopher.

Rest assured, the occasionally numbing repetitiveness of liturgy and the occasional vapidity of sermons binds us regardless of our respective faiths.

That’s why my Dad’s eulogy mentioned both how he was always “just resting his eyes” in temple and how he’d stop us fidgeting there by playing “the stopwatch game” with us on our digital Casios or Armitrons when things ran especially long (the game entailed starting the stopwatch and trying to stop it at exactly the x.00 second mark. Whoever succeeded the most times over the course of a minute was the winner).

·

The theological answer is none. The I Am doesn’t need a watch.

The practical answer has to be a g shock. Carpenter that hangs around lots of water and dust/sand needs something that would hold up.

Absolutely! Let's do a monolog where Allah, Mohamed, Budda , a Jewish Rabbi, the Dalia Lama etc. is the punchline. Seems like Dr. King is the only Christian off limits.

Maybe a Chiefs watch. 😄

And there in lies the crux of the matter. There are as many ways to interpret the bible as there are bibles to read. All of them are valid, none of them are THE correct interpretation.
