Two months into the new year, how many of you, like me, have failed to keep your watch purchasing resolutions?

Just curious. I'll go first. My plan was nothing new until March of this year, and 2 weeks into January I had already purchased 2. I hang my head in shame, but no judgement here, all in fun. Who is next?

Yeah that went out the window first weekend of Jan 🤷‍♂️

·

Luckily I’ve not made a resolution in many years! 😂

·

The two things I told myself were to buy less watches and less microbrands. I have failed on both fronts. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄😭😭😭😭😭

·

Anyone who says "i'Ve BeEn GoOd" can just get the hell out of here.

I refuse to answer on the grounds of self incrimination 😂

·

I have stuck to mine. My last purchase was in December and I have not even thought about buying one so far.q

·

I’ve bought two, but I’ve sold one so it evens out (kinda)

·

I have found my impulse buying has been replaced by a complete lack of being able to make up my mind. Zero watches bought but savings keep increasing brining more watches into budget. This could end with a Rodger Smith if I'm not careful 🥺

·

I was planning one big purchase later in the year, but as ever got sidetracked again 😖. Ended up with four already, plus Still waiting on two from last year. Damn it. Hoping for a 'dry' March😅(well that's the plan)

·

I didn’t make any resolutions and so far I’ve stuck to that with several purchases😂

·

I said I wasn't buying anything until June, but I wanted some extra straps and one of them was the same price if bought it with a watch, so I picked one up accidentally. 😐

·

Right there with you. I was planning to hold out till seeing Watches and Wonders releases, then proceed with buying my first luxury piece from a boutique (Tudor BB54).

But then, a more affordable watch I’ve had my eye on (Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical in Bronze) was restocked at Jomashop in limited quantities, and the price was too good to resist. Pounced on it and the next day, it was sold out… so I feel relief rather than regret since I was able to snag it at such a good price. Im also fortunate enough to still be on track for my post-W&W purchase… for now, that is 😆

·

Well, I really didn't set out to have a New Year's resolution but if I did, I broke it.

I was hoping to not make any purchases this year until after my taxes are paid off. Not even close. I'm 3 purchases in so far, but one of them is that new Kurono LE so I'm pretty pumped about that.

·

I haven’t gotten anything… yet.

·

I've been good so far , but give it a few months ;) lol

Actually, I don't quite get the name either.. Sprite is green and yellow... 🤔 I think Rolex owners, or maybe Rolex corporate, gives catchy names to help get a watch more viral? Not sure how/why/where the nicknames are picked.

But black and green is actually legit a Watchcrunch colorway! Maybe that lefty should be re-dubbed "the Crunch" 😀 thoughts @TheHoroSexual ?

The “Crunchex”! 😄

·

I've stuck to mine because of one reason; remembering the amount of money I wasted last year impulse buying watches then selling them a few months later.

·

I ordered my Baltic at Christmas it doesn't count 😅😅

·

The only reason I haven’t gotten a new watch is i lost my Bitcoin on a transfer to the wrong API still waiting on Stowa Watch Germany to respond to my emails from 9/2 . Damn …..

·

Last year I made a plan of watches I was going to buy and the order that I would get them and it lasted for 8 months

I had got my sinn u50 next up was the grand seiko gmt then the green mm200 gmt. So far so good

I got to mid January and was saving up for an empror tuna and this happened

Image

and then this 🙄 on the same weekend

neither on the list anywhere

Oh well I did try 😂

No resolution, nothing to break. 😄 But I have not bought a watch this year yet, but do have the Nivada Grenchen Antartic (35mm, handwind) due for delivery in March. Ordered it in 2023.

Just tell yourself that you can give it to your kids someday, so it's really for your kids 😂

·

I made a commitment to focus on straps this year and have stuck to it.

·

Already failed miserably, and it's not even March!!

·

I started mine on February 10th. So I'm doing fine so far.

·

I've stood firm! During Advent, I promised myself to save up for a nice piece when my trial period ends. So no spending on other watches or any other luxury things (unnecessary clothes etc). I bought one item of clothing. And the dream watch is closing in, only a few days... and then it's gonna be dry again, saving up for holidays and other, more useful items.

5 in the first 2 months of 2024. #guilty

·

Yep. Same here. My plan was to just have 1 big watch purchase this year. Then I met the Zenith Chronomaster Sport. So the plan became 2 watches this year. I had the Zenith bought in January as I 'got a good deal' and couldn't pass it up. So, that left me with my plan to pick up the IWC Pilots Chrono Top Gun this year. That's now coming this week. Le sigh...

Well, there is a WatchCrunch watch. Made by @Mr.Santana. The Rolex GMT-Master II collection, with its vivid and varied color schemes, has inspired a lexicon of nicknames that reflect the timepieces' personalities and distinctive features. Alongside the "Sprite," we find the "Root Beer" moniker affectionately assigned to the full and two-tone Everose versions, further enriching the Rolex narrative. These names, rooted in visual and cultural references, offer a more intuitive and memorable way to identify the watches than their reference numbers, which can be arcane and less descriptive to the casual observer.

For many enthusiasts, it's far simpler and more enjoyable to converse about a "Sprite," "Pepsi," "Coke," or "Root Beer" than to recall and communicate the precise reference numbers, which can be a labyrinthine task for anyone but the most dedicated aficionados. In this way, these nicknames serve as an accessible entry point into the intricate world of Rolex collecting, bridging gaps between novices and experts and fostering a sense of community around these horological icons.
