Multiple Watches From Same Brand

What’s your opinion on owning multiple watches from the same brand? I know it’s common, especially from browsing WC. Many people have collections filled with the same brand, and there’s nothing wrong with that. For me personally, I have a smaller-ish collection and do like to keep some diversity between brands and complications.

In my own dilemma, I really like the Hamilton Intra-Matic, however I already own two Hamilton watches, both given as gifts. As far as chronographs go it’s my #1 pick for my budget. I just feel like getting a third Hamilton would be a bit redundant, and the Intra-Matic as my third Hamilton takes away the diversity from the collection. What would you do?

This will be the first Hamilton you bought yourself. If you like the brand already, go for it

As long as the same brand watches are different, I'm all for multiple watches of the same brand.

I have 6 Omegas all different & 5 or 6 Hamiltons all different.

I wouldn't want 6 Speedmasters even if they're all different variations, but a Speedmaster, Planet Ocean, Aqua Terra, Seamaster Chronograph, etc all different.

Yes my Hamilton’s are different. Jazzmaster and Khaki Field

I see no problem with same brands heck! I even buy the same watch in different dial colors or colorways !! Same as buying Jordan 1’s I different colorways lol

·

A big reason why I mainly collect Seikos is because there's such a diverse multitude of watches under the Seiko brand that I feel like merely collecting 1 (or even 2 or 3 or 4) would have me missing out on so many other interesting creations that they've made.

And there are different ways that a collection can be diverse aside from the brand name. From different complications to colors and finishes to dial and case designs to the movements that power them.

Buy what you like. The intramatic is a beauty..

There’s a lot that I like. Unfortunately my bank account doesn’t always agree with it 🥴

This is very true. Hamilton to me makes so many things that I like. If I had the financial means I could definitely make a micro collection of just Hamilton pieces.

·

I have more than one by 12 different brands. Somehow Seiko isn't one of them... yet. In a couple of cases they're similar watches, but usually they're so different that you wouldn't know. It's totally irrelevant to me.

·

It really comes down to what you want from your collection. I have 5 CWs, 3 Marathons, and 3 Timex in my collection.

I'm also the kind of guy that buys three or four different colours of the shorts, shirts, pants, etc., that I like. Why bother messing around with different brands if you know that the stuff you like is made by one brand?

·

I think the gentleman said "as long they are different" I have a few Omega's in my collection and one is a diver, one a speedmaster and a dress watch. JMO

·

Hamilton used to be the most represented brand in my collection. That distinction now goes to Longines. It wasn’t planned that way. I buy watches I like and the collection ends up being what it is.

·

I drink the Seikosha tea! However Bulova comes in a strong 2nd. After those two, the wheels fall off! whatever I think is cool!

·

I think brand loyalty is fine as I own many Seiko's, but I think that each watch needs to be able to stand alone to you. I would never own two of the same watch, but I might just buy them in say different colours, tho I would probably need to have different bracelets and straps on them both. At the end of the day, if they are different enough to you, then go for it.

·

This is nothing... I know a guy who has around 5 Seiko SKX.

Some are Jdm versions, some are not. But the guy collects just that one watch🤷🏻‍♂️

·

I have a limited luxury collection but would probably keep it to one per brand, unless the watches are very different (e.g., SMP300M vs Speedmaster but not Sub vs. GMT). It's a free for all with affordable watches though - I've got 4 Seikos and Casios

·

I used to have the same mentality; 1 watch from 1 brand. That changed once I realized that certain styles can sometimes ONLY be found from the same brand. For example, in regards to Seiko, I love the alpinist but I also find the SPB143 to be a damn near perfect diver for me. In my case, I can’t find alternatives to those options other than by sticking with Seiko. Furthermore, there are no rules for this hobby. Buy what you like. If it happens to be from 1 brand because of style, that’s ok. If you buy only from 1 brand because of heritage, that’s ok too.

·

I've never considered owning multiple watches of the same brand to be bad. It's nobody's business but my own. I have three Bulovas and two Casios. My Casios are the exact same model too, just a different color. If a stranger doesn't think that's okay, they can die mad about it.

·

I often struggle with the same idea. I love so many brands and I want to try them all, but I also have found brands that I really enjoy, and I want to own more than one of their watches. The most recent example of this for me is Monta. I own a Noble and an Ocean King from them. They are incredible pieces that I wear constantly! I also would really love to own a field watch again, and their Triumph model seems like a homerun to me. However, I have stopped myself from buying one more than once due to "too much of the same brand"....

Truth is, wear what you want and own what you want! Hamilton makes great watches, and if you own three, then hats off to you! If you know you'll love the watch, and you have been wanting it for a bit, then I say go for it!

·

You could limit yourself in countless arbitrary ways. Only one watch per color, crown position, clasp type, beat rate, etc. Limiting by brand is just another arbitrary choice.

·

Watches from the same brand can be very different in terms of look/feel. For example, take my Glycine Combat Sub and Airman:

Similar colorways, but VERY different looking and wearing pieces.

·

If you like it, buy it. Simple as that!

·

I would definitely go for the Intra-Matic if that is the watch you are interested in. I own several Bulovas, Tissots, and Citizens. I've learned that if you have your eye on a particular watch (that you can afford) and you buy something else for whatever reason, you will have regrets and will likely still desire the watch you really wanted. Save yourself the angst and go for the Hammy.

·

I am looking into buying a second Tudor down the road, I own three Timex, and I have a couple Casios. If I think I know a brand and like it, that gives me more reason to buy from them again not less.

i have a couple of vintage Longines and i seem to have sold off there newer pieces that I had but they a releasing some very nice pieces lately....

Get the Intra-Matic chrono. I have one and it's an awesome watch. I have 3 Hamiltons (had 4 and gave one to a friend), and I don't see anything wrong with it. They make great watches and the 3 I have are significantly different from each other that there's really no overlap. I also have 3 Omegas. I had 5 at one point. Omega make excellent watches, IMO.

·

I have owned groups in th we past but now I prefer diversity.

·

I mean 50% of my collection is casios, so I don't see a problem with multiple watches from the same brand 😂

·

The intramatic is probably the coolest chronograph in that price range and down. Awesome retro style, great color choices, and a timepiece that reflects the brand and it's history. If Hamilton made this watch in a smaller size, especially lug-to-lug, I'd own one. If you were after a dive, GMT, field watch, or anything else I think that'd be a great opportunity to explore another brand.

Definitely some cool chronos though, like the Seiko Speedtimers.

Watches are like shoes. Different types for different activities. Buy what you like and can afford.
