Tissot PRX Digital

Yesterday, my new Tissot PRX Digital arrived. This watch is extremely polarizing and has received a tremendous amount of hate since it was announced. Yet, this piece immediately appealed to me for several reasons.

1) I wanted a daily driver that was practical and versatile enough to be worn with a lot of outfits, and yet not too fussy 2) Something that was high quality enough that it wouldn’t get worn out too easily 3) I wanted something with Swiss/euro heritage and some watchmaking tradition behind it.

This checked all the boxes for me. I’ve had some cheap Casio digitals before, and the plasticky and disposable feel was off putting. This watch feels substantial and well built, and the finishing is excellent.

No, it’s not for everyone. But personally, I quite like it and its retro looks, and I am happy with the purchase. I will also add that it looks nicer in person than in a lot of the publicity photos. I plan to wear it as a daily driver. 😀

PS: Watch is the 35mm on a 6.5 inch wrist.

I don't hate it, but me me the design doesn't work. It's the round bezel combined with a rectangular deplay that's jarring to look at

I like Marmite.

Enjoy 😊 Don't wear your watch for anyone else

I hear you, but to me, it’s no more jarring than Apple’s “Squircle” case with a round watch face. Digital watches can pull off such incongruencies in a way mechanical watches can’t, in my opinion. It doesn’t bother me! I guess it’s a matter of personal taste.

Agreed!

Thank you, sir! And about collection capping, I feel the same way. I have been watch swapping and buying for a while now, and it hit me there always be “one more” out there. Choosing a nice daily driver like this was my way of putting the breaks on the endless chase (at least for now). As fun as it is, sometimes it consumes a bit too much of my mental bandwidth haha. I feel content with this as a daily, and will be hitting pause on the collecting for now.

·

I m a fan even though I don't like the standard PRX. It reminds me of the first digital watches I remember from my childhood and for that reason combined with a brand with history and credentials it gets my vote!

Yes! I feel the same way. I grew up in the days when a calculator watch made you the coolest kid on the block haha.

·

I quite like it myself, though I don’t plan to buy one. I don’t know why some are so opposed to it. I guess they think it somehow diminishes their mechanical PRX?

·

It's growing on me. I'm also guessing the actual watch looks better than its photos.

I love the Digital one in gold. It would also save my PRX Chrono from some unnecessary wear & Tear around the house.

My comments are just my opinions. Of those are irrelevant to your wallet and tastes. So enjoy your new watch. I hope you get that little tingly feeling every time you look at it.

·

It's not for me but if it's something you like and enjoy I'm glad you've got one.

·

To much dead space for a $300 watch

·

i’m not a fan of it when i first saw it. but i’ve grown to respect it especially after watching the latest video from Christian & Micheal @ TheoAndHarris https://youtu.be/F1czzs48MRs?si=FIs5hnfMmK7pVMFM

I think Tissot nailed it what that watch. It's nice to see a premium digital watch that isn't a giant and gaudy G-Shock.

·

I'm a big fan of Tissot and my PRX analogue quartz is one of my Top 3 pieces in my collection. But I think the ongoing hype and success of the PRX line has made Tissot greedy and unreasonable lately, and with the release of the digital PRX, they've finally "jumped the shark" for me.

There are so many things I dislike about this watch:

  • a rectangular digital LCD being put in the standard round case of the analogue models, instead of creating a slightly different case for the digital model where the digital module wouldn't look so "lost". It's even more off-putting on the 40mm variant!

  • The module is extremely basic and just displays the time. You can only see the date by pressing a button, which to me is an absolute NO-GO.

  • The fact that the digital model costs as much as the analogue quartz variant. Yeah, I get that Tissot don't manufacture every single sunburst dial by hand, and that the handset used in the PRX is pretty much "off-the-shelf". Still: A high-quality Ronda quartz movement with EOL functionality, a beautiful METAL sunburst dial, a date wheel and 3 metal hands are worth more than a cheap, digital LCD module - no marketing spiel by Tissot can convince me otherwise!!

·

It's a great watch. Let the haters fuel your joy😎😈

·

I think you made a good choice with the 35mm... best display to face ratio.

The display is large and clear.

The backlight is very good.

I see nothing wrong with wanting this watch, there really aren't similar watches.

The price is in the same range as my gold Seiko quartz and, it's a Tissot. Casio just don't offer this build quality.

·

As someone who’s taken a lot of heat for my SwatchPain - I applaud you for going with what you like!

I think personally I’d get a classic PRX and a Casio for my digital needs - but you do what you want! And wear in good health!

·

This is the original watch it's modelled off. I really like the design, with the face being less circular.

The gold version is in my local vimtage watch shop. The bracelet is the same as the PRX's, very comfortable.

Heuer did something like this in the 80s – for the Carrera. I guess it‘s a 1980s retro look – and you don‘t want it to be Japanese

·

This digital PRX is definitely not for me, even though I own a 40mm PRX powermatic 80. The size of the dial was a key factor for me, even though I have a small wrist, but I like the overall area of the waffle dial. But as mentioned above, it's about what you like because you will wear it. In my opinion, watch manufacturers have known for a long time that they cannot appeal to everyone with only one model because so many people have so many tastes. But if I were to get something digital, I'd probably get a GShock. Wish you lots of fun and enjoyment with your new addition

·

Looks good on you bro.

I have no idea why they didn't do something with all that wasted space, it could have been solar, it could have had a negative MIP display, there so many thinks and they decided an a rectangular calculator style disply

·

The hate doesn’t matter. So long as you like it.

·

They look cool, going to AD to look at digital light blue dial

·

Your wrist. Your rules... enjoy 😊

·

It doesn’t look as bad as I thought. #tissot scared me with this one. 😂😂

·

if I had more money I would probably buy it.
