Case Size spread in your collection

I visited a newly opened watch shop a few weeks ago, just curious to see how they were set up and what they had on offer. I am a sucker for vintage watches and saw that they had a few with which to gaze.

The gent showed me a Rolex (I think it was Oyster Perpetual) that was 34mm case size and while it looks quite small in the display setting, the guy offered me to try it on. Once it was on my wrist, I was surprised that it didn't seem that small and I was actually quite pleased with how it looked.

Question for Crunchers: Do you try to build your collection to stay within a preferred case size? What is the spread among your collection? (I am 34mm-46mm)

I personally do not try to stay within a certain size, I am a 'dial' person and am attracted to them for their looks first, rather than just their size.

Let the discussion begin..........

off course for my collection is 36mm-42mm. but that depends on the genre, bigger size usually the one with a rotationg bezel

·

I usually prefer my watches in the sub 40mm range.

·

38-43

·

28-45mm

·

25.5mm-46mm (Cartier Tank to Apple Watch Ultra)

almost 8 inch wrist. prefer 33mm to 36mm. the old timers did not want to be reminded of a heavy metal object on their wrist. They were tools not jewelry back then.

Glad you identified your pieces, I was wondering what that 25.5 would be.

I have a few vintage at about 33mm

But for watches I wear regularly, it ranges from the PRX @ 35mm to the GGB100 Mudmaster@ 51.3mm

I don't care about the stated sizes, just how they wear, and if I like it or not.

·

38-46... but I prefere the lower end around 40. if the lug-to-lug size is right, i'm open for something smaller.

28-45mm

Show us that 28! Curious!

·

34 to 42, plus the Arnie.

The old 34mm Rolex/Tudor cases fit like a dream on my wrist. I miss the one I used to have.

Right now, I have 36-40mm. Most of my watches are 39 or less but I have a couple Scurfa dive watches and I love their chunky 40mm cases and I wouldn’t want them any smaller.

39 - 44mm for my 7.5" wrist.

My wrist is only around 6.25" and my watches range from 34-42mm. It's great to have a variety of watches to match how I feel or want to dress up.

34mm Seiko Type II Quartz - My smallest watch. Low-key and low-maintenance.

Image

35mm Omega Constellation - The perfect size for me. Versatile, classy, and comfortable.

Image

39mm Seiko 5 Flieger - Still a very comfy size for daily wear.

Image

42mm Longines Legend Diver - My biggest watch! Fortunately it wears thin on the wrist. Feels very sporty and fun to wear!

Mine range from approx 30mm to 46mm, but most are between 36-42mm

40mm-42mm is my preference

Excluding a 57 (diesel) that now acts as a paperweight... 32 (vintage cellini) to 44 (citizen gps).

In standard watch styles, I have 34mm-56mm.

@RFIMike

I personally will not have a watch in my collection that I cannot wear comfortably.
I do wear all the watches in my collection. I have large GShocks to 38mm currently in my collection.

I will say in "standard style" watches  I will not buy anything larger than 42mm dial 49mm lug to lug no matter how much I like the watch because those are the max sizes that I can wear comfortably.

As far as GShocks I just have to try one on and see if it is too large or small and because of the way their rubber straps fit I can get away with much larger watches in that style.

·

My largest watch is my Casio GW-6900 but that really is the exception in my collection. I typically try and stay closer to 41mm but the real limit for me is keeping my lug to lug under 50mm for my 6.75 inch wrist. My smallest watch is my 1969 Hamilton GG-W-113 at 34mm.

·

7.25in wrist, 36mm to 40mm range in the collection. But it really is lug-to-lug and case design that makes all the difference. My largest watch is a Tudor North Flag at 40mm with a 50mm lug-to-lug which, on paper, is too big. In the metal, on the wrist, it sits great and stays put so wears smaller than the numbers imply. You've got to get it on wrist to know, just try not to fall in love with a design before you get to see it in person.

37mm - 50mm

I prefer a larger watch and most of mine are 42-44mm, although I have a couple of 50mm‘s as well.
I find it’s not so much the large case size but the lug to lug that you need to be mindful of. My U-Boat is a big watch but it has very short and tapered lugs which makes it really comfortable to wear.
