Your unintentional box collection

I would think most of us whom have a few watches, (clearing throat due to the exaggeration of modesty or is it embarrassment), inevitably have an unintentional collection of boxes as well as certificates, user manuals, links, dealer swag, and other stuff that came with them. Well, I never plan to sell my watches as I learned I inevitably regret selling them. These boxes and stuff just sits within larger boxes, but something stops me from throwing these away or selling them - is this estate planning? 😂

Have you the same issue ?

No, but actually yes

·

I was actually the victim of a closet box avalanche last weekend. The stack of watch boxes had gotten too high and precarious and about 30 boxes came crashing down on me. They are a bit better organized now, but I really need to find a better solution.

Watches with manuals and boxes, certainly valuable models... The box and accessories you cannot put a price on - don't underestimate the value of them

·

I only have a few worth keeping but I try to repurpose them. The little hexagonal G-Shock tins make great storage for little tools

·

Just like my CDs, I keep them in a large file box.

Nice box of boxes !

I thought I was the only one. 😬

Not a problem for a vintage collector like me. However, the three or four boxes I do have I’ve kept. I do plan to throw them out eventually.

That looks very nicely organized compared to my closet disaster.

I have a few. I also keep my fishing reel boxes.

·

Same! Currently sitting in the plastic bin under the bed with my wife’s planner boxes as she has the same issue

Oh man this is a real problem amongst us. Currently I have a few in my one of my drawers and the reminder on the floor of my closet. The other day I looked at the ones in my closet trying to figure out what to do.

·

I've repurposed every single one of my watch boxes as a desk drawer organizer and I don't regret it. (They're probably the sturdiest small boxes you have in your house, try it!)

It was fun to look at my Japan-only warranty cards once, but they're literally worthless pieces of paper.

·

I don’t keep them, I don’t plan on reselling my watches and they are not even nice to look at ;-)

·

Yes I keep the boxes. I have even kept some of the boxes for cheap Casio's and Timex watches. I recently went through and got rid of the cheaper watch boxes because they don't really have any resell value anyway.

What Xemex do you have?

The Offroad Automatic. Love its simplicity, I need to wear it more.

Oh yes, I have a watch storage box my wife got for me (i think its her way of saying throw the watch boxes away or a way to get storage space back) 😄

But I can't get myself to throw them

·

Mine all sit in a large plastic storage container. Once that fills up, will have to get another one 🤪

·

I have a humiliating cupboard full. Yeesh!

Absolutely ...not!!!

·

I absolutely keep all of mine. Every watch I own has original papers, receipt and it’s box. They are all in a box (a box of boxes) in a storage unit… I won’t ever sell my watches but if my daughter one day decides to, she knows where they are!

·

Although any product eventually needs packaging I'm very much in favour of a trend among micros to minimise the box and safely package the new watch in a watch roll or pouch of some sort which can be reused and ideally is durable and not hideous. I do keep the boxes, because I realise that should I want or need to resell, they'll make it easier. When you think about it, it's regretful that part of the price you paid went into a box you feel obliged to keep but hide from view instead of delivering better value to you while also costing the planet unnecessarily (though naturally our hoarding/collecting habits are the main cause).

Keeper's

·

I've been meaning to ask this question for at least a couple of weeks now!

So far, all the boxes have been stashed under the bed, but there will come a day in the next few years when we move house and my wife asks me what i'm doing with them all, and I will not have an answer she deems adequate...

·

Mine are all in a large sealed bag in the loft. If I give away a watch it goes with box and papers (once found)

So THAT’S where they stored the Ark of the Covenant!

·

Boxes? Boxes you say?

Here are boxes for better watches;

Boxes for fashion brands & Cititzen, etc.,;

And my "collection" of presentation/wood/nice boxes (and some watches too).

Other stuff there also like brand new iPods kept in reserve, Boston Acoustics radios, etc, stuff that should be kept in climate control.

·

Hah! I’ll take it a step further, I still have the bags that the watch boxes came in… at least they fold and are much easier to store. Honestly have no idea why I’ve kept them but the boxes themselves I’ll never throw out. I display most of them in cube shelves (which probably isn’t the best use of shelf space)… 🤔

My watch box drawer has significant overspill.
