I was on a trip and felt like I wanted something rugged but also interesting to look at and had history. I think the Willard spb237 is the ticket, with a textured grey dial to boot. Can you think of a better option?
Glycine Combat Sub. Costco currently is selling GL0083s for $300. Swiss Made SW-200 movement, super thin case and 200M WR. Pocket the remaining $700. You're welcome.

I literally just picked one of these up 2 days ago. I feel this is a great watch for the price and I’m lucky enough to be able to treat myself to it.
We are spoiled for choice at the $1K mark! They are all good in their own way. If you can't find an esthetic you like for around $1K you aren't looking hard enough!
I like my Ombré over the Willard but then it is an LE so you would be looking second hand😂
Had so many seikos since i started collecting watches in 2017. Flipped all of them. But the grey willard has everything i ever wanted in a seiko: cushion case, sapphire, 200m wr, textured dial, 40mm bezel diameter... just a pure toolwatch vibe 🛠
This one will stay in my collection - that is for sure!
I was looking for this recently under 40mm (because I have a preference for smaller watches). I wanted to buy the Seiko SPB185 through a local AD in my country for around Php 49K (around $980), then I found the Certina DS Action Diver 38mm for Php 34k (around $680). I was like, this looks clean, it's Swiss (it's my first swiss watch and most of my watches are Seikos), a solid movement, and 300 meters water resistance ISO certified (like I'll dive that deep 😂). So I bought the Certina, loving it and never looked back at the Seiko Steelmaster.
I feel like I've handled most of Seikos divers at one point or another and I have to say, getting to the 1k level you definitely see a step up in the fit and finish 👌
Thanks for the advice. I am probably biased because I haven't handled or looked at any of the $1k+ non-GS Seiko watches. I'll take a look at the $1k + Seikos in person the next time I'm out at my Seiko dealer. Not that I need more watches on my list (Willard/ 62 Mas/ Sumo (well Sumo was already on my list and it's under $1k)).
I don’t know if they have gone on sale yet or not, but the new Citizen challenge diver recreation seems like it will pack a lot of watch for $1k. Sapphire crystal, full titanium (from a company that knows titanium well), Miyota 9000 series movement, 41mm diameter by 12.3mm thick. And the retail price on bracelet is under $1k, I have a feeling you will be able to get a decent discount on it too

Its nice but The Hamilton or Longines dive watches will last longer. On the upside the movements are cheap.

These are my two favorite divers for 1K:

I picked up a GL0076 from them back in September '19 for $289.99. Still the best bang for buck watch purchase I've ever made.

1/5th of an Omega SMP300 🤣
Not the best probably but my fav is the Hamilton Frogman
Got a pretty long history too, though in different iterations!

Man so many divers! under 1k. Since people already chose Glycine then I pick Alpina Seastrong as my best diver under 1k.
Been thinking of upgrading my daily beater
the spb237 is high on the list
Turtles, man! Turtles!!!
Is that the special Seiko braided nato that comes with that watch? I'm just wondering how the build quality is on that strap.
with @Max criteria in mind, this piece would do the trick in my stash 👍 ymmv

For around 1000$ I feel like this is quite amazing.

I am currently on holiday and wearing my spb143. Perfect watch in this price category for me
Farer have just released this. In a choice of colours.
The basic specs are:
200m diver
38.5mm case (45mm L2L)
120 click unidirectional aluminium (partially lumed) bezel
Sellita 220-1 movement
1 bracelet, 1 (fitted) rubber strap, 1 nato included
895GBP
Ok I am cheating the price point a little but both of these are tough and reliable ... also not something you see every day

I have that one in black but it's a lot more than $1k.
Yeh, like a few of my peers here- Squale! Obviously 😉
For the price those new Glycine Combat 36/39 are hard to beat for the price!

Where’d you get that strap?

That is an uncle seiko gl831 in the smaller size 😉
