What would be your 2 watch collection?

We all hear quite a bit about 1 watch collection but what if it was a 2 watch collection? While some people can stick to just one watch I absolutely cannot and personally feel it’s a bit too reductive. No change, no variation and most of all extremely hard to get the complications you care about. Therefore I feel what’s more ideal is to be a bit more relaxed and have 2 watches that you can rotate with all the complications you care about between them while maintaining the minimalist approach.

Now I get that the point of a 1wc is to avoid the problem of choice but if you select your 2 watches carefully, you’ll almost always know which one to go for.

Let me explain my choices. My 2 watches would be

1. Omega SMP 300 white (dive bezel, date, amazing lume and versatile with straps).

2. Rolex Explorer 2 black (date, GMT, amazing lume).

Between these 2, I can keep track of another time zone, time things with the dive bezel, know the date, not to mention see the time in darkness thanks to the amazing lume and most importantly wear either for any occasion be it formal or casual. Also I can take one of them up to 300m under water but let’s be real I’m hardly gonna do 10m.

What would your ideal 2 watch collection look like?

P.S. This post stemmed from a thought I had about which watches would I keep if I had to sell all my watches for some reason.

Only choosing from within my collection...

Alpinist SARB017

Seiko GMT SSK005K1

Two watches doesn't compute. But I can narrow it down to:

A true dress watch

A mechanical chronograph

·

Hmm… Most likely an Omega PloProf and a Muhle-Glashutte SAR Rescue Timer

·

You mean 200? For just 2 I would be basic AF; Sub, Daytona.

I’m going with the ‘65 Accutron and the Baltic Aquascaphe.

I have a new two watch collection/rotation from purchases this year.

  1. Rolex Two-tone Datejust 36mm, fluted bezel, jubilee bracelet, white dial, sticks, for dress and everyday.

  2. Tudor Black Bay Heritage 41mm with burgundy bezel and jubilee bracelet (the new one released in March) for everyday and diving 😂

·

1. Grand Seiko SBGA413 (Shunbun) - I can't get enough of the Japanese grammar of design and expert craftsmanship of GS. They make the most elegant dress watches in my eyes.

2. Tudor Pelagos 39 - It's a bit plain but until Omega steps up their game with a proper bracelet on the SMP, it's my second choice for a proper rugged diver aesthetic.

I don’t know if I could do a 2 watch collection. But here’s the 2 top contenders from my box.

First watch. Rolex Explorer II polar dial. Clean, under the radar, GMT and waterproof.

Second watch. Glashutte Original Senator Observer Black dial. Clean, dress watch that can be dressed down,

Power reserve indicator, outstanding open case back.

Seamaster Aqua Terra

Santos and Explorer are a great combo…I think the black/white punch is ideal (unless you are running an everyday and an occasional piece).

I prefer the Santos and Speedy, but I do love dive watches! Santos and Sun might be good.

I don’t currently own a white dial watch 😢 and would go in a different direction for my current collection:

I’d have to think long and hard on a 2 watch only collection, but I can’t hear to say how much I love the duo of an SMP 300 and Exp II. These look so great side by side and cover all the bases beautifully. Would love to own both for sure!

Rolex Sky dweller (white)

Rolex Explorer (black, obviously)

I have these two in my collection and think together they would make a great two piece collection as they represent the Rolex’s most simple and complex designs. I think they both contrast and complement one another perfectly.

From my collection, I'd go for:

G-Shock DW-5600

Timex Expedition North mechanical

A sport/casual watch with stopwatch, timer, and backlight, that can take whatever I throw at it.

A field watch on a bracelet that is very casual, tough and has a clean dial, but can look a bit fancy if it needs to.

OxandBuck

If you forced me to choose, from my own collection.

IWC: it's a classic that doesn't attract to much attention and can be dressed up or down.

G-Shock: Cause I need an actual tool watch.

Nice 👌 That Spitfire is fire 🔥

I am a big fan of the two watch collection. I’m halfway there myself….

Seamaster 300 Heritage in blue

AquaTerra Day/date in Black

(If I had to add a third it would be a 40mm explorer)

·

Lorier Neptune

Tudor FXD

·

Rolex Explorer and Breitling Aerospace Evo with DLC coating.

One is a go anywhere, do anything watch. The other is a tough as nails titanium watch with a coating that's extremely hard to scratch and a thermo-compensated quartz movement that's accurate to with in +/- 10 seconds a year.

This is a BOSS 2-watch collection 👊🏼

·

Speedmaster

Explorer 2 Polar

·

From my current assortment of watches, I think it would be my two Longines, the Spirit Zulu Time and the Master Collection Moonphase.

If we're talking any two watches, then it's probably The Patek Calatrava Pilot travel Time 5524G and the Rolex Air King 126900

I’d be losing my hair if I had to stick with two watches. These are my pick, for now!

Fantastic pair

·

I currently have a steel Daytona, which I feel comfortable wearing occasionally with either casual clothes or with a suit. And I’m looking to add a Sub to wear daily to complete a two watch collection.

  1. Custom Vacheron Constantin world time in red.

  2. Omega speedmaster white gold.

And since my wife always says, you bought another watch, I thought you weren't buying any more....

3. Rolex GMT master ii pepsi.

Edit: she asked me to remove this.

That Master Collection moonphase is insane🔥

That Master Collection moonphase is insane🔥

Thank you!

·

If I were to limit it to 2 watches (that I own) I'd either end up with

1) Invicta Pro Diver and a Seiko 5

2) Casio Lineage and an Orient Golden Eye

1 is the sensible option that I'd kinda be forced to take, whilst 2 is the less sensible but more fun with my two favorite watches.

Really highlights why for me I enjoy owning multiple and couldn't settle for just 2

I am very close to your selection. I love history of speedmaster and classic design, so went with speedmaster in black and then want the polar explorer ii. I give up a little water resistance by not having a dive watch, but I like changing straps with speedy and think it looks great with a suit. The 100m with the explorer should be enough for my usual swimming. The white dial seamaster looks so cool though so maybe someday I will add that too!
