I REJECTED the AD call

Today my Rolex AD called me and told me that one of my possible watches where avaible to purchase (my preferences where the Explore I steel, the Explorer SG and the oyster perpetual blue, in this order). They offered me the Rolex Explorer Two tone !

I was shaking, and I was so exited that I booked an appointment just a couple of ours after, I went there tried on the watch and I liked it a lot!!

But there was a little something that didn't feel right, I thought that probably my goo to choice was the steel one, because was more "relax", more easy to wear and less flashy, so I did REFUSE the proposal.

This for me will be the watch to commerate the college graduation so it has to be the right one, that is why I refused and I will keep waiting for the real deal that could also come much more later because the request for the steel only is much higher.

What would have you done guys? Would  you buy it anyways and waited to buy also the other one? Would you buy the SG or reject and wait too?

Let me know in the comments and if you like, post your last purchase!

You are not old enough to be saddled with a pensioner's watch.

The 36mm Explorer is one of my most favorite watches.  But I could never be comfortable wearing it as a GADA watch because of the perception that it is a luxury watch.  Of course this perception changes when you're crazy rich so a Rolex explorer would probably be the equivalent of a Seiko for us 😀

·

Stick with steel, it is not the issue of gold. It is the polished bracelet that ruins the whole look and feel. Also the reason why I always wish modern GMTs can come back with fully brushed bracelet.

·

It has to be the right one for you. I would have done the same.

·

Great decision, only buy what you want.

I was at an AD last year, purchasing a watch for my significant other when the sales associate offered me the ss explorer 2 with the white dial. It was available for sale but after trying it on for 5 mins, I politely declined. The watch just didn't speak to me and the dial color was not my favorite.

My recent purchase was in last Nov, got myself a black sub with date.

You made the right choice. buy what you want or it's an expensive mistake you will regret . That watch was purchased by someone who it's right foe & they love it = Win/Win for everyone

Lovely sub man!

Thanks!

You could always pick a better watch than a Rolex...and it's likely available at retail or a discount at a lower price than a Rolex...just saying...

·

Waiting for what you really want is the right choice. It’s a journey….

·

You were absolutely correct and your self control is to be apluaded.

·

Looks to me like they were sneakily trying to upsell you with a more expensive watch. Be vigilant!

·

Good decision! Go with another better brand where you can actually purchase what you want? Don't play their game.

·

I would have done the same with that piece, and have in the past. My AD respects that. Hopefully they'll call you with your preferred piece soon! Go with what you like always!!

Last Rolex purchase was the green OP 41mm.

I have pulled the trigger since on the GS White Birch Spring Drive

Very lovely pieces!

If you like the explorer one - consider the Grand Seiko SBGX261 -   it’s the same but different (better?)

I know this reference and it is very beautiful, thanks for the advice.

You made the right decision, 100%. This was my last purchase, the other end of the watch scale to an Explorer 😂

Nice pic!

Thanks planning on getting it next week

I ended up getting both color ways..... To me the explorer is the perfect modern watch.

·

I love the two tone, but if I were you and didn't love it then I would reject it. Never buy a watch you don't really want.

It sounds as though the AD called hoping to unload a piece that isn't selling so well.

I live in Miami, which is full of people with high end sports cars.  A while ago, I began seeing lots of Lamborghini SUVs on the road and asked myself why anyone would want such a thing.  I mean, Lambos are sports cars for models to drape themselves over, not family cars.  So it turns out that having the money to buy one of the supercars isn't enough to actually get your hands on one, you have to have a history with the AD before you get access to the good stuff.  Now I don't know if the Lambo SUVs that I see quite often are placeholders for supercars, but I suspect that it's the case.

It turns out that the high end car world works much like the high end watch world.

I had the same scenario. I was on the list for a 36mm blue OP but the first call I got was for a 36mm blue DJ on a jubilee which was nice but not what I really wanted so I declined, thanked my AD for thinking of me, and continued waiting. 2 months later I got the call for the exact model I was looking for and I'm glad I held out

I think I may actually really like this site (yes I'm new) this thread alone speaks volumes.

I've seen similar posts of Facebook and the Rolex types there would have given you massively different advice buy it flip it etc.

This is so refreshing and from someone unlikely to ever buy a Rolex because of what they have become..

Quite a chunk of faith restored face

What size was the blue OP?
