Steeldives are a great value. Seiko movements, sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel inserts, etc. Timex has some great vintage looking stuff as well.

You can’t go wrong with Laco or Stowa (huge fan). IWC are beautiful watches as well but (in my opinion) you may want to put 7K into something with more impact. Fliegers tend to look almost identical from a distance which would make me lean Stowa.

I started my collection almost 20 years ago with a lot of vintage Omegas. Some not working. At the time they were very reasonable compared to Rolex. I purchased a busted-up, non-working Speedmasrer Pro and sent it to Omega for a complete overhaul. It came back looking brand new. Repair cost was $400. Now I’ve gravitated to Seiko divers. Vintage and new. Just love them.

This will sound nuts but I purchased a time grapher app for the iphone app that uses an external (wired) microphone. It works really well for a hobbyist and so far has been pretty accurate. It’s called Timegrapher X. Costs about $25.
