NWA: Commemorative watch for surviving the WC Scavenger Hunt 2023!
As quite a few of you will have noticed, September saw a lot of pics of grown men in weird situations, showing off their watches whilst lobbing grenades into zombie infested crowds, wearing a red dress or fighting their way through torch-lit corridors. Meanwhile a bunch of them also had to find time to diffuse a bomb, whilst others tore their hair out solving puzzles or scavenging 300 items in a week’s time…Anyway, that was the the madness that was the WC Scavenger Hunt 2023, cordially hosted by @DeeperBlue (a.k.a. DeeperRed), with the occasional support from @Aurelian (a.k.a the Evil Doctor / every time he posts now, I see an ageing Michael Douglas in my mind..). It was a blast, and great to see how a couple of weeks in, the group really started to rally round to make sure no Cruncher was left behind. After four weeks of zombie-fighting, it felt appropriate to celebrate the hard won survival with, who would’ve guessed, a watch! And I knew it had to be a Mr Jones. Have had my eye on them for a while now, and their fun and non-conformist approach to watches resonates with the Hunt vibe imo. Three candidates quickly emerged:
From left to right: A Perfectly Useless Afternoon is perhaps the most well known MRJ, and I really like it. Because of the color scheme it would in all honesty not see that much wrist time though. The Accurate (“Remember You Will Die”) is also one of my favourites, but apart from the fantastic title and ‘subtitle’ on the hands, the dial itself is rather bland. So I went with the watch I’ve had a soft spot for since I first discovered MRJ: the Beam Me Up! I have been a fantasy and science fiction fan long, long before any other pastimes and hobbies entered my life, and I love the blue dial with its flying saucer, pig & cow, in combination with the brown suede strap. In case you were wondering: the flying saucer’s beam marks the minutes, the position of the pig marks the hours. Well, here it is:

love it!!! The tractor beam is perhaps my favourite Jones… but I always want a seconds hand or similar so I can see if it’s running at a glance. But for that, I’d already own that one!!!
I’m doing a 2 x NWA’s in celebration 🙄🤪!! But… even though I’m ordering now… I don’t know when I’ll get either of them! 😂. Could be months! 🙃
So, I’m quite torn… but I think I don’t announce anything to Crunchville until I actually get one of them in hand. 🤔

I my self decided to celebrate by building another WC mod diver style to celebrate the victory!! It was loads of fun and harder then I expected but I couldn’t have made it to the end without the heavy assist I got on the last few challenges. A big thank you to everyone and I hope the game i create for early next year is half as fun.

I collect watches just to get the stuff I thought looked cool when I was 12! That’s what its all about! :)
