Today saw the arrival of the newest member of the watch family (but fourth oldest, after the 30s Junghans, 40s VC and 60s Zenith):
Very nicely packaged, in a leather travel case. Much more convenient and useful than the regular - utterly useless - box a watch normally comes in:
Then the watch itself, a 1969 Omega Constellation, reference 168.017 SP:
With the chronometer-grade calibre 564 inside:
On a aftermarket strap, but, nice touch, including an Omega buckle:
The back:
Some backstory: An astronomical observatory emblem has featured the Constellation caseback since the collection was initially launched in 1952. The motif depicting the cupola of an observatory surrounded by eight stars was inspired by the โobservatory competitionsโ (i.e. watch brands competing for highest accuracy). While popular legend pegs the cupola as belonging to the Geneva observatory, Omega Museum Director Petros Protopapas says it is more likely to be a generic depiction. The eight stars represent Omegaโs chronometric achievements at the annual observatory chronometer tests between 1945 and 1952.
Then, finally, on the wrist!
I must say, I am chuffed. First Omega in the collection; love the C-shaped case, the elegant dial and the constellation logo in that instantly recognisable Omega script.ย Happy camper indeed!
PS: top tip for any new Connie owners - the quick-set date on this ref works by pulling the crown in and out, as opposed to turning the crown..
PPS: shout-out to Akkerman Vintage Watches - nice guy, prompt service, thoughtful packaging ๐

Congratulations! She's a beaut! ๐
Outstanding
Nice story and a beautiful watch! Congrats! ๐๐
Those Omegas have something attractive, I think I will pull a trigger in the future also.
I just got my two newest purchases today as well. Cannot focus on my work, want to go and pick them up asap ๐

Thanks! Felt the same - the new Seamaster, Speedmaster etc. are certainly excellent and attractive watches, but the character these older models haveโฆreally appeals to me.
Looking forward to see your new arrivals!
Congrats, wonderful watch and in great condition too
What a beauty ! I love that watch

Thank you! It does show its age - but you have to look quite carefully to really see it ๐
Beautiful pick๐ Even if the model came late 60s, to me this the very best of the 70s. The quirky case shape, but in a small and delicate size, combined with a classic good looking dial. Enjoy!

Fully agree. This just shouts 'SEVENTIES!' at me ๐ The 35mm width is indeed fairly small, but the C-shapes do give it more 'wrist presence' than my similar sized Zenith.
My hunt for just the right Connie has lasted about two years now. So many variations! Thanks for encouraging me to hold out for only the best example.
