When out in public, what is your personal limit for the value of watch you will wear for either social comfort or safety reasons?

In general public no limit, if at a crowded bar / club then I'm definitely more cautious.

·

I think it's safe to say that I'd never wear a $50,000 watch in public. Or privately.

·

E - less than $750

·

I chose C because thats my personal cieling for price of a watch.

·

I marked $20K mostly because I wear my Breitling Avenger B01 Chronograph all the time.

·

My budget only allows a $300 at the moment.

That being said, I would rock a Royal Oak in public. So anywhere from $25,000 to $40,000. Lol

·

Nothing like setting the bar a little high.

·

Let me check my bank balance first!!

I limit my 50k watch wearing to: When I am sufficiently high above the cloud city of Zzyanksville flying on my english muffin unicorn on the way to visit my wife who, on this night, happens to be Winona Ryder circa the Beetlejuice years.

I usually wake up in a sweat because I have height issues.

I chose no limit, because if I own the watch, I will wear it. Being a humble librarian, I will never be able to afford a 5K, 20K, or 50K watch to begin with, so it's really a moot point. But assuming that I somehow acquired one, I would wear it. I would take precautions, of course, such as wearing cuffed sleeves, which can hide it until I need to look at it. But I would definitely wear it. As for "seedy" places, where one's awareness would need to be heightened, that's no problem for me, because I don't go to bars and clubs and whatnot. My idea of a great time is the church Easter social. 😎 Or maybe hanging out at Bass Pro Shop with my son. 😎

I'm actually a rapper so D 😂😂

·

I picked 'A', but in fairness I don't have any watches worth over £5k!

In an ideal world where I had an amazing collection I'd wear any value if the venue and situation were right.

·

if you bought it, wear it. keeping a watch in its box is such a waste. if you’re worried about theft, loss, or damage, then get insurance for it. i just posted about insurance yesterday and watch insurance covers theft, loss, and damage world-wide.

but more so, if you bought it and would be afraid to lose it, then you shouldn’t have gotten it in the first place. you own the watch. don’t let the watch own you.

I don't think about it at all. Unless you buy very recognisable brands or highly ostentatious watches and move in circles where vulgar "flexing" is a thing, nobody really notices.

·

I mean, there are appropriate places to wear a $20k or $50k watch. There are also inappropriate places. General public is a pretty big place.

I think it, like most things, is a read the room situation and dress accordingly.

·

I don't have any watches in my collection worth $1000, let alone $5000 or more, so I chose no limit, because I don't think about my watch getting stolen when I choose one to wear. 🤣

·

For now my limit is easy as I don't own anything close to 5k yet 😁

·

No limit, my Rolex op was 24k at one point market value and my Panerai msrp was 7300. Would wear more expensive if I could afford it watches are ment to be worn

·

I do think about this often, but not because I am worried about safety. It’s more about not wanting to be ostentatious with wealth around people who may be struggling financially.

·

Depends on the situation... if safe and secure then no problem sporting the iwc rolex cartier breitling or omega.. if a bit sketcy, then its time for the twsteel seiko casio timex apple watch or whatever else i got on my wrist at that time...

·

It appeals to my love of not only books, but of history, and of computers. It can be tedious at times, but at the end of a long project, there is an immense feeling of accomplishment. 😃

·

Mostly depends on location.

I would have zero issues being out and about in Dubai with a yellow gold Submariner, but would think twice before rocking a model more expensive than my Formex Essence on Paris public transport, unless its something completely invisible such as a Citizen ChronoMaster

·

Where I live there have been zero theft from the person incidents in the last 5 years. They just don't happen. So I have put no limit. But as I mentioned in a post before I've not travelled with my watches and I would be very reluctant to do so.

·

I have no issue wearing any of my watches downtown to a metal, punk, grunge concert. I’ve been wearing them for years in that context without even a glance or a mention.

In fact, I’ve never had concerns about watches in my city but if I were travelling to any of the places that you lot live, l’d for sure hide my women and keep my good watches at home.

·

I don't see an option for 500US$ there, weird.

·

I don't own a watch even close to $5000. My old Ford Ranger might not even be worth that much. I wouldn't wear an extremely expensive watch in public because of safety reasons. I would feel like a poser. I'm definitely not in the category of having super luxury goods in my life.

·

Anything sub 250$, as that's more than an engineers monthly salary here in egypt. With the current economic state wearing flashy watches or jewelry (even if they're cheap) is an easy cue to get mugged.

·

I have a $50k+ watch but scared to wear it outside. I have a $17k watch and that is okay. I’m guessing people’s thought process is, if I lose this and it’d affect my finances dramatically to replace it, then I’m not wearing it out

If you bought it wear it. If it's some place where having nice things puts you in danger maybe the problem is the location not the watch.

E - less than $750

I was thinking the exact same 😆
