In training for the 1WC

I have started training for the 1WC. I have put my watches through rigorous tests for accuracy, comfort, and overall wearibility. Each watch must be able to be worn with a blue suit. I have narrowed the choices down to just 12: two automatics (a Felsa 415 and a Felsa 690) and ten mechanicals. The oldest was made when FDR was president, the newest was made in the Nixon administration. Vintage did not do well overall last year. I have to do better this year.

This year no bracelets. The bracelet was my undoing last year. All bracelets start to get to me after a while. I picked a bracelet because I wear brown and black dress shoes. Because my NATO and silicone straps are too casual, leather is the obvious choice. I may have to wear a brown strap with black shoes. It will hurt, but it is for a good cause.

What is your preparation ritual? (I am also carb loading for extra energy.) And which one of the 12 would you choose if you want me to lose?

Already started lol. Had to since work stuff crept up. But will be home long enough to play around with some newly arrived straps before day 0.

Fashion rules can ALWAYS be bent or broken, confidence is key. 🤙🏻🤘🏻

Also started tidying up the ol photog and writing skills.

Haven't decided if I'm bringing out the Yashica GTN....😎

·

I believe the rules do not prohibit reversible watch straps. Just switching out straps.

·

Classy collection and different from the usual divers and such. I don't sport bracelets either, however a few as of late have given me pause. As for what you can lose, how about the one with the green dial? Nothing against the color of course. ; )

·

So last week I did a bit of parading some of my ‘other watches’ that will be shelved for the future. Then this week I’ll be wearing a different strap on my Tudor Ranger every day ending in the bracelet Sunday which will be my choice for the challenge.

I’ve drafted haiku.

I’ve reacquainted myself with Disney villains and debated which could wear the Ranger.

The two watch boxes that hold my collection will be moved under the bed and the Tudor box will sit with in their place until the rest of you throw in the towel.

Ranger on bracelet forever and ever.

This has nothing to do with your post.

I just want you to know that I involuntarily hear Puccini in my head whenever I read one of your posts.

I now fear you may be an Agatha Christie villain, or perhaps it is that your great-great-granduncle was Prof. Moriarty.

I respect you, sir, and I will expose you.

·

Brown watch strap with black shoes? You’ve already lost.

I can’t really help here. I don’t have a problem wearing a single watch all the time. I don't because I like changing watches, but I don’t need too. I guess I’d say stay away from vintage, too many possible issues. What if it needs a service? I would go with your newest automatic.

I rather think of myself as Lord Peter Wimsey. The music playing would be this:

"I always have a quotation for everything--it saves original thinking."

🤫😏 Guess who.....?

One gets eventually runs out of the known books and ventures into uncharted waters on long deployment....🤘🏻🤙🏻👍🏻

·

If I wanted you to lose, you should wear the Kulm

·

A true baller such as yourself would pick that cream dial, red second hand and the green leather strap.....🤘🏻

·

I’m preparing by wearing all of my possible temptations except my chosen strap/watch combo. I could use some clarification on one thing…. Lucas Films is now owned by Disney, which of course includes the entire Star Wars franchise. Am I safe in assuming a Star Wars character qualifies as a Disney character, because of course it is a subset of all Disney characters.

first world problems 🤦🏻

What is your preparation ritual?

I did a poll just to feel the people mood on four options.

This week I'm wearing each of that watches to take a decision. I'm weighing the pros and cons of those watches and the sugestions on poll.

and I believe that @Aurelian could adjust rules to avoid that kind of cheat. 😜😂

Man, Good Luck!

·

My preparation was buying a new watch that definitely won’t be here until shortly after #1wc starts. Swish.

·

If you want to lose take the square one whose band is the colour of tea with too much milk. That watch band will destroy your retina in a few days. On first impressions, the yellowish dial one seems to have most flair.

My preparation for 1WC was to buy a new (old) watch on ebay. Hopefully it arrives on time. I'll give it a quick check on the timegrapher when it arrives. If it fails that plan B might be a vintage Ruhla/MuDu/Nisus/Certina if I feel brave, or a modern Pagani/Baltany if I want to be sensible.

·

Unfortunately as much as I want to participate it is a no go for me. Had a test run with BB Pro last week but my work/life situation and activities don't allow me to wear it for a month straight. Besides, I probably couldn't depart with my other watches for that period as I love them too much. Wishing you all the best with your #1WC choice and may the best one win

Lovely varied group there. Decisions, decisions...

·

I've ordered three new natos arriving today on the basis I'm going to chose one of my divers for the challenge. Like you the bracelet may get annoying worn continuously.

I couldn't chose from your selection as in the nicest possible way vintage is not the way to go for this race. Its like putting money on a donkey to win the grand national?

·

I’ve been looking for a watch that will cover all areas that I can wear for a month. Downside, I’m going on a cruise the send week of June.

·

I'd go with a clear white dial and a red/purple/dark chocolate strap.

Maybe take off the strap from DONG or Croton and put in on a watch in a right top corner. Your strap game is 100% on point. As a fellow leather strap aficionado myself, I 100% approve this box. Dark chocolate is more safe bet and I've been wearing Seiko SNK803 on a chocolate strap for 18 month straight (it was my only watch and my only strap, happy days when I could have only one watch), but I think that this might be a little bit too safe.

I'm thinking of using my Murph 38 for this challenge. I'm on my honeymoon phase with steel bracelets, so I might try to get a Milanese bracelet for my Murph. Second option is to put it on brown suede or OEM strap. But I have this buzz at the back of my head, saying "wear a dress watch, wear a small dress watch, wear your Raymond Weil 5768" and I have a very strong temptation to do so. I don't like the strap it came with, but it has 20mm lugs and I can use Murph 'alligator' strap with it. Do I spend most of my day in sweats? Hell yeah. Do I cook like a damn keto-madman and come out of the kitchen covered in grease? HELL YEAH. Do I think this is a good environment for a delicate dress watch? I don't think so. Is it the only one working 5768 in whole country and it feels like I should be careful with it? Yes, but hey, where's the fun?

Picking one watch is way harder than actually wearing one for a month)

·

I will not run this year. Last years competion was great fun but I learnt that wearing one watch was not for me. Too much temptation. But I salute you and the rest of the contenders. Good luck all👍

The upper right (Voumard) is the only 19mm in the box. I have a spare 19mm strap but it would not improve things.

I must disagree with you about one thing. Picking the watch is the fun part. After a week, wearing it is less so.

·

The squarish one with the small seconds, the green dial one or the green strap one all seem to be good contenders for losing! 😅 While beautiful pieces, they aren't too versatile style-wise in my opinion.

·

Wear the black strap and you are covered for all contingencies.

Actually, I am requesting you wear that gorgeous Hamilton.

·
casiodean

After a few days also practicing with my horrible Pagani Datejust, I have changed my mind and will now be wearing my brand new Gudex.

Image

Your Sek-Tud-a.

·

Go with the Hamilton since you must wear black shoes at all. As far as training, I've put my other watches up for sale, so they're packed up, ready to go.

Also, don't think too much about it; imma win 😀

·

I’m down two watches in the collection now so I’ll be enjoying this madness from the sidelines. And it is madness.

·

I've already started wearing mine non-stop. I basically forgot that I have more than one watch at this point 😜 but let's see how that works out when it gets serious.

I hope my Ming arrives tomorrow, if it comes next week I can't take it for a spin until this is over 🙄
