Crazy watch spots?!

So I was wondering what crazy watches have you spotted on people in real life? I personally once had a customer rocking a rose gold nautilus and we had a great chat about his watch, he was super chill and friendly about it, super enjoyable moment. Wishing to see more pieces like that in real life and not stored in safes or behind bullet proof glass⌚

I‘ve seen Platinum Daytonas, Royal Oaks, Offshores and Nautilus(ses?) en masse in Vienna, but only in specific spots! It‘s always exciting

You know, I've always wondered why you save the posts and never comment immediately 😂

·

I am genetically incapable of identifying other people's watches.

I save these posts just in case I forget a newspaper 😂

Honestly don't often check people's wrists, but caught a Doxa and an Omega Seamaster in one night at an election count a couple of days ago, not exactly where I would have expected it 😂 the Seamaster was proper vintage, turns out the guy was a miner (lots of them here in Derbyshire) and got gifted it after he worked in the mines for 40 years

·

Our old pediatrician rocked a gold rolex daydate on a president bracelet.

I also saw/tried on an AP ROO.

·

Floyd M. w the most gawdy crusted AP while getting on an elevator at ATT Stadium.

·

I saw a unique Oris on the wrist of someone I shared a panel with at a conference recently. Couldn’t place the model though. Another guy I shared the panel with was rocking a Cartier Santos. Also saw the ‘57 tribute Seamaster 300 at the airport on the way home and a bunch of Rolex’s at the conference.

·

Daytona white dial steel (preceramic), Rolex Explorer II black dial (modern version), Oris Aquis blue dial, Nomos full gold, Chopard Chronograph, multiple PRXs and the highlight a Patek Phillipe Nautilus white dial steel.

·

My friend that I help at his restaurant for, wears an iced out Breitling. Even though it's very flashy it actually a very nice looking watch. It was done in good taste. I see that in the wild with a Rolex here and there but that's about it. The ones I see are the same guys all the time. I never see anyone new around wearing anything exotic.

·

You know, my brother-in-law sports the loveliest AP Royal Oak which he gifted himself for his 50th. It makes the idea of wearing an homage watch a ridiculous proposition for me (and I quite like some homage watches). He's got one watch. That one. It's beautiful.

The watch tells a lot about a person and its super interesting to have small talks about their watches and stories!

·

I'd recommend to anyone if you notice anything you like or are interested in to not be shy and actually talk to people, because most of the times they will be happy to share more info about it and will be a cool experience for both🎉

I had a customer wearing one of these:

A Cartier Santos Chronograph.

When I commented, his face lit up. He seemed really happy I noticed. I couldn't keepy eyes away from the thing.

·

My wife saw an ENT Doc once who wore an Omega Seamaster "Commander's Watch." Which in and of itself isn't all that crazy. The crazy thing was the Bentley Continental GT Speed he drove parked in front of his office (the vanity plate gave him away). Apparently giving people allergy shots is really lucrative work 🤑

Regularly hang out with a guy who rocks this as a daily driver. He has 200 other watches. Only 36 years old… sold a tech business. Legend

·

Funny that you posted this today. I saw a Nautilus Perpetual Calendar yesterday. I didn’t say anything to the guy. Kinda regret it now.

·

There’s a dude in my gym who wears his yacht master on one wrist and Apple Watch on the other everyday, the double watch thing kinda is weird I think lol

Its for those of us who need what the Apple watch does, but want to still wear an old school watch. You get used to it.

·

I just don't move in those circles. Best I ever saw was a gold Yachtmaster at the 2001 Minnesota State fair on one of the vintage tractor guys. He told me he had worn it for two years and I was the first person to notice.

·

In Montreal, QC, I was at a cigar lounge called Stogies Cigar Lounge or something like that. There was a man with an AP Royal Oak Chronograph with the gold bezel, the black leather band, and the black dial. I passed by him a few times (he was on my way to the humidor and whatnot) just to take a look at his watch more closely. I didn't get a detailed look, and I wasn't psycho enough to ask him about it. 😜

This is what it looked like: Ref. 26240OR.OO.D002CR.02

I’ve noticed that most high end collectors of watches are nice people. I very seldom meet Watch snob. I avoided people that will start the conversation by telling me how much he paid for his watch and what the secondary market price. One of my friend with insane collections of watches. He saw my Seko 5 GMT and he loves it. To me. That a true collector. It’s not about how much your watches are. It’s about the fellowship and our love for watches😉

Yeah completely agree with you, its never about the price

·

I have seen some high end watches on people's wrists, especially when traveling for business and attending major shows ( nautical/yachting sector ) but most respect and crazy pieces I have seen on my boss wrist. He is a huge watch collector and when in his office at meeting we always have short watch discussion. Handled many of his pieces so far, including AP's, Pateks's, Rolexes and even 250k FP Journe ( he bought it long ago before hype train started for 20k, same as many of his high end pieces from AP and PP )

·

Seen a gold fluted bezel datejust with green dial at an airport and seen a Pepsi at a restaurant near my house. Not crazy at all but real goes to show how small this hobby is and that what might be common in this hobby is rare for non watch people. I do see black submariners once in a while though. Most common thing I see.

After 40yrs working in a mine I'd expect a Rolex and a medal , very dangerous place to work

I'd be willing to bet he was lucky to get anything. Most of eastern Derbyshire was mining at one point, that's a lot of gifts. I suppose some may have come as gifts from the National Union of Mineworkers, but it's way before my time so I don't know 😅

My old company gave long standing awards for 25 and 40yr service, they must of given watches it was quite common

I had a customer in the gun shop where I worked who was spending obscene amounts of money. 😀 I'm talking multiple pistols at $10,000 each and such. And he wanted to take some private Defensive Pistol classes from me. My time was rather limited, and I really didn't wanna do it, so I quoted him what I thought was a ridiculous price for my private services. He agreed without question. 😮👍😀

We met at the range a couple of days later and I noticed his watch for the first time, as he'd always had long sleeves on in the shop. I about passed out. I'd never seen one in real life before...let alone on a wrist.

Solid.

Gold.

Rolex.

Daytona.

I gushed. He laughed and let me try it on. 'Twas a memorable day. I wish I'd taken a pic! It was the model in this stock photo...
