One watch you regret not getting

I think it happened to all of us at least with one timepiece that we regret not pulling the trigger when we had the chance. For me it was the seiko alpinist ginza edition, if I could roll back time I would buy instantly for the msrp 😭. So I was wondering what watches you regret not getting when you had the chance?

It was an Omega Seamaster 300. Massively discounted. I had the means back then too. I don't remember why I didn't get it. Regret to this day. And now, I can't justify the purchase while trying to get my business going. When I'm all settled, I'll possibly look into one again. In the meantime, I'm having too much fun with affordable/attainable models.

·

Slightly controversial but mine was a yellow Rolex OP. Couldn’t get it from any AD so found one at a reseller. They were asking for £12k for a £4k watch and I couldn’t justify it. That watch now is worth £20k+ 😩

·

The IWC Big Pilot I tried on at their boutique in Manhattan. Also, the Tudor Black Bay 36 I tried on at Torneau lol.

·

The Rolex Milgauss. Could have bought it years ago. By the time I was ready I had to go on the waitlist and sat, never getting the call and now it is discontinued.

I paid 200 more when I found mine lol. 8 month hunt! My Zelos Spearfish Burnt Orange Dial La Joux Perret G100 Soinge movement.

·

I haven’t missed the opportunity yet, but I do feel like I’m going to be filled with regret if I don’t get one of the new Islander Port Jeffs with the white dial.

·

For me was also the Ginza, I came to know about the release a little late and by the time I could get one from my AD it was all sold out. I would mind paying a decent price for it in the secondary market but the prices are ridiculous for the model now.

·

A 39mm, Mark II dial Explorer. Got a call from an AD about a month and half after I put my name down, but had already spent the money on my Buckley dialled DJ.

·

Seiko SARB035

·

Seiko Sarb035 for me as well

·

No regrets...eyes forward...no looking back...

In January 2020 I walked into a Rolex AD in Berlin and they had one Explorer II polar sitting in the front window for sale. Granted I don’t visit Rolex ADs very often, but I’ve never seen another Rolex that wasn’t an exhibition-only piece in a display case.

·

Farer Bernina. They were all gone by the time I made up my mind.

·

sarb033

I bought a sarb035 back then and decided to skip the Balck dial.

·

It was an Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch (Hesalite). Had the choice between that, a Planet Ocean and a Tudor Pelagos. I bought the Pelagos and absolutely love it, but the Omega is going up in price so fast that soon it’ll be out of (easy) reach in my country (Australia).

·

Rolex OP 39 in white at retail. Had the chance and passed. Spent the money earlier on a watch i no longer own because of lack of patience.

Here’s a shot of the Ginza on a matching crazy horse.

Knew it was a must buy when it was announced!

Missed this Islander though, was going on sale at a bargain recently til it was sold out.

I kind of regret not getting the Islander too. I saw it on sale and thought about it but when I went back later, it was gone. I hope Mark re-releases that watch or maybe the same watch with an NH34 because I think one issue with those might have been timing with the flood of new more affordable price point GMTs being announced using the NH34 right after the launch of his Swiss powered GMT.

The other watch I really regret not getting (but can't regret too much because by the time I saw it, it was sold out) is the Mk II Project 300. I love the vintage original the Project 300 is homaging but am not likely to ever get an original.

The same happened to me with the Ginza, love that watch.

The other one is the white dial Rolex OP 39 mm, I had it on my wrist so many times, since a I saw it every time that I visited the AD I always said I’ll buy it for my next birthday. Rolex stop producing it, that pandemic came, prices went up, the new version is bigger, and I will never pay more than retail for that watch.

Birth year Submariner! In great shape and before the market went crazy.

Casio that played James bond music as the alarm, I was 7 I my mum was to tight to get me it, this was 41 years ago and I've still not forgiven her, in fact I'm going to text her now 😁

Seiko SPB147. This watch caught my attention and got me back into analogue watches. But I decided to go cheap which turned out with me buying 3 watches and spending almost twice as much. And it is still the only diver I really want. Any other dive watch (maybe except a vintage Tudor Submariner) just don't cut it for me.

The second watch I regret not buying is a Tissot PRX. A lot of people here and on the internet have strong negative opinions about the PRX. And while I'm not easily influenced on buying something, I'm actually very easily deinfluenced from buying stuff. The PRX got into my heart almost immediately after I saw the watch, but all the negative opinions kinda added up in my head, so I've decided to skip on it. And I've been constantly getting back to PRX since then and constantly reminding myself why I don't want this watch. Like I've spent a lot of time trying to justify not buying this watch.

This one. When you were able to get them for $1-2K.

Just follow your heart and buy the things you want and try to reduce the noise from others, at the end of the day you are the one that spends time with it⌚!

mmmmaaaaaaan, this is just stunning.

stunning.

I've never seen this one before tbh and what can I say, this is some next-next-next level. The colors, the logo, the writings, the seconds hand. I'm a complete sucker for this kinda stuff.

wow.

That is a Rolex MilSub. Only about 2000 were made for the Ministry of Defense. No one really knows how many still exist. The ones with the correct fully graduated bezel and sword hands are pretty rare. In the 80s and 90s you could pick them up at government surplus auctions. From about 2010 onward they go for upwards of $200K at auction. Some excellent examples going for $400K plus.

yeah, I know. I know.

It's just a strange phenomena, I'm perfectly able to filter out all the praising, specially online. I collected a lot of different stuff - guitars, pedals, synths, even sneakers at some point, and I'm always suspicious about the hype. Not that I don't have any of the popular or acclaimed stuff, I have, but if I don't like something it doesn't matter how much praise it gets online. Like I ditched the perfect American made Fender telecaster in a favour of custom-built guitar from a local luthier. Saved myself almost 2 grand and never had any thoughts about selling or trading this guitar.

But when it comes to negative reviews I guess I just a bit biased. I've been working in internet marketing for a while and I'm perfectly aware about unethical practises like paid reviews. So I have a bias towards negativity.

And I know that this is not optimal to say the least.)

Good thing is that those watches I regret not buying are not limited or discontinued and are available at MSRP, so I guess as soon as I get myself a bit of disposable income I can fix this problem)) It's like nothing compared to some other examples in this tread.

I was thinking of buying the Dan Henry Top Gun lookalike but didn’t and then the new movie came out and all were sold. Now it is expensive on eBay.

This for me too

·

Just the opposite for me. I sold a 40 year old Rolex about a year ago and have regretted it ever since.
